love list + creating change

love list: re-capping the best of the week, and sharing the love. yum.

what i loved this week:

  • this week i love my home.  i love how it looks and how it feels.  it’s a cocoon of colour and inspiration and i love living here.
bliss room
my bliss (yoga, knitting + meditation) room

  • i love yoga pants and bare feet.
  • and of course, fall.  i love fall.  the trees. the sunlight. the perfect weather.

but really this week i don’t have much of a list and i don’t have any links to share.  because this week i am t i r e d.

but happy.

because something big is changing next week: everything!

i am creating a new routine for myself.  as a creative being, i thrive on routine and i thrive on change.  ha!  but i do believe i have come up with something that supports both of these and will keep me from being so overwhelmed that i get tired.

really, this new idea feels like a breath of fresh air sweeping through my life.

though it’s not really actually my idea.  it’s my job.  i’ve been working monday-wednesday and it’s not really working as well as it could.  so we decided to try something new – working weekday mornings.  at first i resisted because i love having free days but the truth is i know i’d be more productive and balanced with fewer free days but more free time each day.

i really do thrive on routine and once one routine is in place i can build other routines into it.  like: visiting the river every morning. journaling every day.  swimming.  meal planning and cooking in advance.

it feels like changing my schedule creates a space for me to really look at everything.  like emptying out a closet to clean it out.  i can look at everything really carefully and decide whether to put it back in, or to toss it.  and i can bring new things in.

so, more than anything this week, i love this.

change and routine.  re-arranging my life so i have more nurturing + creativity and less overwhelm.

spread the love!

please go into the comments and share with me what you love this week.

and – what kinds of routines and structures are you creating in your life that support your creativity and nurture your soul?

What do I love this week? Well, it’s funny after reading about “cleaning out your closets”…because that’s exactly what I’ve been doing, and I LOVE it.

I love the feeling of lightness and freedom as bags and bags (AND BAGS) of unneeded stuff leave my house! The other day we sold a set of chairs from IKEA that my mom bought when I was about 5. They were still perfectly comfy, but they were ratty and hideous, and we just kept them around out of habit and because extra seating can come in handy sometimes. Well, no sooner did we come back into the house after sending them off to their new lives as cottage furniture, when we suddenly realized how beautiful our living room can be! Our furniture all fits now…and I don’t just mean physically! It *fits* us. And that’s how I feel about this entire moving process so far…we’re whittling stuff down so that it actually fits: physically, aesthetically, and energetically. We keep what we love and use and let the rest of it go. And I LOVE that.

As far as routines go…well, honestly, anything I do this week is going to be vastly different from any other week, but I am trying to keep a balance and spend some time with Xander in the mornings instead of just packing ALL. DAY. LONG. That’s something.

Good luck with your new routines! It sounds like this could be a wonderful change for you!

I’m trying to get up earlier. My husband is an insomniac and so I tend to stay up late with him (I also have really bad habits left over from graduate school). But I know if I got up earlier and got my swim in earlier, I would get more stuff done in the day. I can only focus AFTER I’ve gone swimming, so it needs to come first. It’s going to be a struggle because it’s just SO easy to stay up later and later and later. I’m awake and I get things done and times just flies by. But I miss the mornings a lot.

meg, lightening our loads is always awesome, isn’t it?! sending you some extra energy for packing and staying balanced.

chel i so hear you on the swimming thing! i used to swim every morning and it was so perfect for being energized. i am looking forward to getting back into that.

though – i just took a mid-morning yoga break and i feel amazing now. totally re-energized. so that is another thing i want to bring into my new routines. yoga breaks ftw.

I love your house, too! :) Mine feels a little small these days. I can totally identify with your need for routine, and I do best with a daily ritual as well, even if it doesn’t make sense to other people. I get lost on the weekends because of all the unstructured time so I’ve had to create my own little schedule.

This week I love FALL and all it brings… especially Honey Crisp apples! And fresh figs. And nutmeg in my coffee.
