So here I am. One week into the Creative Journal Magic e-Course.
The people in the class are amazing. Smart and interesting and creative. Willing to try stuff. Willing to listen to their own hearts and guts and wise inner voices. Willing and ready to GROW.
I love the people who show up in my classes. Magic happens in my classes because the people who show up are ready for the magic. So that’s awesome.
But/And I’d like to have more awesome people in this class.
Registration is open all summer and I’m sure registrations will trickle in all summer long. But what I want is like a whole bunch more people. Right now.

I’d like to double the number of people that are there now.
And while I’m working on this I thought I’d share my process here because this is the big thing we all want to know, right?
How do you get more people in your class, or buying your thing, or reading your blog?
First I think you do need to understand the basic business and marketing stuff. That’s not what I want to talk about right now, but if that’s where you’re at I will happily and wholeheartedly recommend:
Unveiling the Heart of your Business by Mark Silver ($65 and also worth every penny – I believe in this so much I am an affiliate for it)
[Reading and actually doing all of the exercises will teach you what you need to know about building a business that is grounded in integrity, heart, creativity and meaning. And is also profitable.]
The only way for me to double the number of people in this class is to create space for it to happen inside of me.
Even if you’re a marketing superstar you’re still only going to get as many people in your class as your inner capacity is going to allow you to have.
It’s all about feeling safe with it.
From the inside out.
This is about doing whatever inner work you need to do to find safety within and then draw it out.
Get to know the scared and unsure and ungrounded parts of you. Find out what they need. Give them what they need, to feel safe with this.
For this I use the very thing I wanted to teach more people: Creative Journal Magic.
I journaled about my intention and feelings behind why I want more people in the class.
I made a map that shows me how to get from where I am, to where I want to be.
This gave me a clear message about what it is I need now, to make this happen:
I need to spend the day being with how I’m feeling.
And then let what happens next come out of whatever happens with this.
I know!
When you ask the question “How do I get more people buying my thing?” this is not the answer you want.
I wish the answer was easier.
Something like “hire someone awesome to help you write the course description in a way that makes it irresistible” or “buy Google ads”.
But that’s not the answer.
Maybe it will be one day, but today isn’t that day.
Today is a beautiful sunny day though. And it’s almost noon. I’m going to have lunch and then take my journal to the park. I am seriously going to spend the day being with how I am feeling to see what I can dig up there.
{…A few hours later…}
Holy crap!
Huge breakthrough.
I don’t think I’ve ever used the f-bomb so many times on one journal page.
The answer really was in there, in how I was feeling. But it was buried deeply enough that it really did need me to devote this entire day to looking for it.
The thing is with all of this – generally you are not even aware of what it is you are really afraid of. Because, being afraid of it – you’re not even looking in its general direction.
So I wasn’t even looking in its general direction.
But thanks to creative journal magic I found it.
I found it!
And I pulled out my iPhone and recorded it:
(First time using the iPhone to record – I didn’t realise I was holding it sideways!)
So. Holy crap. Lots for me to do right now with this to get ready to do the thing I don’t want to do, but actually do want to do.
I’ll be back tomorrow with another update…

PS – If you think you may be one of the people I am looking for, you can check out the Creative Journal Magic e-Course right here.

I’m sure your course is fantastic & I would love it, but the circumstances are just not right for me yet. I would like to thank you for sharing this.
I completely understand you not wanting to share your number. Maybe you don’t have to, maybe you could just share the number of spots left. Though if you want to share, go for it! *sends love & support*
You are an inspiration to me. I love seeing your pictures, videos, & posts of your creative journaling, walks, & afternoons in the park. They remind me of what I want & inspire me to keep moving towards it. Thank you for sharing so much. ♥
I really like Cotton Candy’s suggestion of just sharing the number of open spots.
But of course based on what you said you may decide that you need to be completely open about all the numbers as part of your process and to move forward.
I am very grateful to you for sharing this process and thinking out loud with us. It makes me feel that to some extent we are all the same, the types of things we struggle with and the fears we have, even ones that seem small (especially the ones that seem small)…it feels familiar and the way you describe it – I kind of feel your fear along with you!
It makes me appreciate how skating over the details of life and pushing away small worries just keeps us stuck. I admire your clarity in noticing these little stuck places and giving them your time and attention.
And I know you will find a wonderful creative solution that lets you grow in a way that feels right to you…
ooops i am telling people about it already – i even blogged about it today – must’ve heard your park musings in my heart…. you can do that Andrea x
andrea, thank you for your openness. i hear you about being uncomfortable about sharing the number. i would be too, although i have not dug into why. i’m believing, with you, for the exact right number of people to sign up for the course. i’ll call them in with you! it’s gonna be perfect!
“Even if you’re a marketing superstar you’re still only going to get as many people in your class as your inner capacity is going to allow you to have.”
That. Right there. Mindblowing wisdom.
Thank you.
Nele
Bless you, Andrea… I love how open you are, and admire that quality. Being a creative & sensitive type too, I understand where you are coming from. As you said, it’s all about courage. Yet there are some boundaries we can honor, while still being courageous… if that makes sense…LOL! I would love to take your course… I am hoping I can this fall, if you will offer it again. Keep your number, it does mean something. We don’t have to know. What you were saying about inner capacity allowing you–that is big stuff. Just keep being true… :o)
