What do you need? (Part 2)

Yesterday I shared my What do you need? Creative Journaling page.

I am learning that this is one of the most important questions ever.

On days like yesterday when I wake up kind of tired and cranky and not sure what to do – it’s the perfect solution.  But on other days it’s just as important.

Knowing. What. You. Need.

It’s such a basic thing and yet also so not done.

Our world is built more on should-dos and have-tos and suck-it-up-this-is-just-how-things-are-done.

Asking yourself this question, regularly and thoughtfully, can change everything.

Usually I say to myself “What do you need, pumpkin?” but you can ask it in any way you like.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a glass of water or a snack or a permission slip.

If you get into the practice of asking yourself what you need and then giving it to you you can make everything better.

Yes – it may mean backing out of commitments you made, if those commitments weren’t true for you..

Yes – it may mean re-arranging or even tossing your to-do list.

Doing a complete 180.  Saying no to obligations and shoulds.  Disturbing the status quo.  Taking a big risk.  Eating dessert first.

It never ceases to amaze me how (women especially) we are so tuned into meeting everyone else’s needs and so awkward about meeting our own.

    Love this.
I have a giant ‘should’ which is to finish a piece of work that is more important than most. The good news is that it will only take me an hour or so.
After that I ‘should’ spend the rest of the day working on a zillion other committments. But actually I don’t feel so great, I have a cold that just won’t shift and I need to rest. Also my house feels dirty and chaotic, and I need some groceries. So I think what I NEED is to plan for the majority of the day to be gentle pottering and tidying, with stretches of just resting, maybe a little knitting, in between. It would feel good to clear a little space, physically and mentally.

OH, this is sooo GOOD, Andrea! And I realize I could be asking myself this question more often than I do… once a week at least… Daily would be even better, huh? ;o) My husband took a day off today. And so, I took the day off too. It’s been so wonderful to set away from the usual daily schedule and doings of things to just slow down, rest a bit, make good food together, enjoy this pretty autumn day… *sigh*… Bliss! Now to bliss-out more often! LOL… Happy Day ((HUGS))
