I can’t afford it right now.

Friday I wrote about How Money Fears Almost Kept Me From Getting The Dream Loft and ended up talking about Money and Dreams are friends and want to work together to create amazing things in your world.

I want to talk a little more about that today because I keep getting messages from people telling me that they want to sign up for the Creative With Money Play Date, that in fact this is work that they know they need to do to make much-needed change in their finances, but they just can’t afford it right now.

I want to start by asking you to re-phrase that.

Because when you say “I can’t afford it right now” and leave it at that, well, you leave it at that.

You’ve put it down.  It’s done.

But when you say “I can’t afford it right now” and then ask a question about it you put yourself in the process of transforming it.

You’re picked it up. You’re playing with it.

So, do you want to transform it?

Sometimes “I can’t afford it” is just an excuse or a way to say no without having to say no.

It’s ok to just say no.

It’s ok to put it down and walk away, if that’s what you want to do.

But if you do want to change it… start by changing what you’re saying about it.

Don’t say you can’t afford it.

The truth is there are plenty of things you’re going to spend money on in the next month.

You actually can afford it.  It’s not that you never had the money, it’s that you made different choices for what to do with it.

Remember that every choice you make about how to spend your money creates something in your world.

Are you paying your bills on time instead of taking an online class?  I’d say that is a very smart choice.

You get to decide what is important to you.  You get to choose what gets your money and what doesn’t.

So instead of “I can’t afford it” you could try saying “I’m choosing not to participate.  I’m choosing to create something different with my money.

Can you feel how that creates a completely different energy around it?

It’s the difference between being a victim of your finances and being in charge of your finances.

Or you can try “I really want to participate!  I don’t know how I can pay for it right now but I am open to it working out somehow.

This one is magic.  I’ve seen it work for so many people at so many different events!

It’s magic because it honours your whole truth.

You do want this.  You see that it can make a huge difference in your life.  And you’re not sure how to make it fit in your budget.

Only looking at how you can’t afford it only honours half of your truth.

And that’s once small piece in the Becoming Creative With Money puzzle.

If you keep re-framing what you’re saying about money you start to change how you feel about it and then you start to change how it functions in your world.

You can actually change what is possible with money when you stop saying “I can’t afford it”.

The Creative With Money Playdate is happening THIS FRIDAY and includes tons of post-playdate bonuses.  I’ll be doing everything I can to help you get what you need out of this, to create what you want to create in your money life.

It’s going to be amazing.

Lol! I wish this were the case. Have any advice for those who have absolutely no $$ coming in?

      Good question!

It’s still the same principles though, about your relationship to money and finding where you can feel good and empowered about your choices. Exploring your relationship with money also helps you discover new places where you can make different choices.

Instead of “there is no money coming in” you could try “I am in a (temporary) ebb with money. But where there is ebb there must also be flow. I wonder what might help me find that flow?”

Nice post! Yes, when we change the relationship we have about the topic of money we can see where we have been holding ourselves back from the infinite source of unlimited abundance the universe provides.
