{creating dreams come true} don’t give up

it’s sunday – which means it’s creating dreams come true day. creating dreams come true is a free ongoing e-course and creative community to support you in living your dreams. if you are new, please feel free to join right in. the more creative dreamers the better!

thriving seedlings

thriving seedlings

some of the abundance seeds i planted are really thriving, and some of them (the sweet peas) didn’t come up at all.  usually i find sweet peas really easy to grow – i just drop them somewhere in the garden and *boom* masses of gorgeous scented flowers!  all of a sudden it dawned on me – my sweet peas didn’t come up last year either.  and this year i planted seeds from that same pack.

that pack of seeds i bought last year must have been defective.

so i planted some sweet peas from a new package and  i’ve already got little baby seedlings starting to poke their way out of the dirt.

so what if last year had been my first time planting sweet peas, and when they didn’t come up, i decided that i’m no good at growing sweet peas and just gave up?

last weekend i went to see the movie the runaways.  it mentioned that joan jett was rejected by a lot of different record labels after being in the runaways.  i can’t remember how many now, but it was a surprisingly high number.  and when i heard that – my creative spirit did cartwheels!

not because it’s awesome that she was rejected.  partly because she was strong enough to carry on and get what she wanted no matter how many people said no.  mostly because there is so much value in carrying on through rejection and disappointment and things not going well. those times of rejection and disappointment and things not going well creates this amazing big transformative fire.

that’s where our dreams get stronger and bolder and *better*.

that’s where we get stronger and bolder and better at what we do.  we step into the fire and anything in us that wasn’t strong enough to be with the dream come true is burned away in the process. we emerge as our greatest selves, the version of ourselves that is capable of creating *anything*.

i love adversity. it does make us stronger.  it does makes us better. but only if we don’t give up.

so this week’s post is mostly a reminder: do not give up.  ever.

your dreams are worth it.  you are worth it.

if there is an aspect of your dream you are struggling with, i encourage you to be open to what the adversity can teach you.  be willing to step into the fire and be transformed. you can look at whatever this big giant obstacle is that is in your way, and say “oh yes – you are big and strong.  and i am bigger and stronger and can move right through you.”

creative dream check-in

please join the comments below and let us know where your dreams are growing and flowing and where they’re stuck. also share any questions or ideas about this week’s topic.  where are you struggling?  how do you plan to keep moving through it?

my check-in:

magic smoothie

magic smoothie

i am getting back on track with yoga!  it feels so good to be doing this again. so so so so so good. and i am making smoothies every morning with flax and whey protein and noticing that i have a lot more energy throughout the day now. yum!

i did eat a lot of birthday cake this past week though so this week i want to focus more on healthy eating.

i am also designing and sewing clothes and having a blast with my new sewing machine.  this week i made a fluffy/ruffly black silk dress. ( i wore it to my friend’s bridal shower last night and she said i looked like a fairy).  the more i get into sewing the better it feels to be doing it.  and it’s like fresh new creative energy that is flowing through other parts of my life also.

in last week’s post i mentioned that i was cooking up something wonderful for the souls on the creative adventure mailing list.  that something special was an offer of free online “unleash your creative magic” coaching to the first 20 people who responded.  that was my way of moving through the transformative fire.

offering the sessions for free to get started helped me to move past the things that were in the way of me offering this service to the public, which were: i didn’t know how my in-person work translates into online work and so i don’t know how to package it up as there are lots of different elements to how i work with people one-on-one.

and i got way way way way way more than 20 responses and i am feeling really supported and encouraged to do this.  i am now setting up those first 20 sessions and will use them to experiment and explore and create a plan for offering unleash your creative magic sessions on my website.  this is such a dream come true.  can you say e x c i t e d ?????

because i feel so lucky to be so supported by the people on the creative adventure mailing list, as i start to offer this service i will be offering special discounts to the people on that list.

and speaking of fires, i am super jazzed that danielle laporte’s fire stater sessions will be released may 12!

i am definitely ready to start some new creative fires and am so looking forward this.  danielle is such an inspiration.

oh and this tuesday you can listen to me being interviewed by imaginibbles!  we’re going to talk about flashes of inspiration, exploring the many avenues of art and so much more.

looking forward to hearing your updates!

It’s so great you’re getting back into yoga! I hope to do this soon too.

I am doing a little better with keeping up my spirits. I still am behind with my blog…but I am very abundant in ideas for how to move forward with my Scotland dreams. I want to look into applying for a grant (if anyone has done this and can offer advice, I’d really appreciate it!) I’ve also decided that I want to research holistic cooking courses, both here and abroad so that I can learn more and hopefully use the knowledge to create Lion’s Share workshops that I can take abroad.

I have also made a point to get more creatively involved with the women artist’s salon I belong to. My friend, Heidi started it in 2008 and we just opened our first group show at a bar on the Lower East Side. I contributed a photo and baked some new cookies for the reception.

I have also volunteered to be one of two administrators for a collaborative blog for the Salon. I launched it on Friday and it’s going to keep growing and developing.

We have women artists from all over the world…

Now, to get back to my blog and catch up on posts!

Ironically I found my way here through Creative Every Day, it just so happens (syncronicity!) I write about my dreams manifesting, taking form and surprising the heck out of me… in part thanks to being on a teleclass where Danielle LaPorte was a guest! Dontcha love how those pieces all work together.

Cheers, brava and YES! YES! YES!… never give up!

    Love this Andrea…
have definitely been ploughing ahead with certain creative dreams even though an end result or ways of making money from them are not yet clear…

I am really thrilled that a piece of my flash fiction was accepted and is on the 6S blog today: http://sixsentences.blogspot.com/2010/05/unplugged.html

I’ve also had a great time writing a review piece on the two fantastic poets I met recently – again unpaid. But so fulfilling to branch out! I’m definitely going to just keep on and see where it goes…

I FINALLY wrote my Spring Cleaning blog!

  8. Lis on May 11, 2010 at 9:00 am

You know, it is like working on a giant jigsaw puzzle and enough pieces are in place now where I can see the connections, the over picture (sorta) and am laughing at the synchronicity of everything. I too have been thinking a lot about this process of bringing one’s dreams into reality (am taking Marisa Haedike’s April in Paris course) and seeing how my yoga practice has put into place a pretty amazing foundation. In the teachings of Patanjali’s Sutras there is a part about not giving up – how fear, doubts, inertia, loss of ground gain WILL occur and those challenges or “set backs” are part of the process. I love your story about the sweet peas as a reminder not to give up. And I’ve been thinking a lot about the oyster that needs the irritation of sand to makes its pearl.

I am also excited by your blooming project and cannot wait to learn more! I just signed up for the mailing and will be ready for a session when you are :)

Oh, and thank you – I’ve found mermaids creeping back into my art and they make me so happy!
