The Cure For Writer’s Block

the cure for writer's block

I’ve been wanting to share some of the super-inspiring stories of amazing things that happen inside the Creative Dream Circle but I haven’t known how to do it. Working with dreams is working with heart – so vulnerable and delicate. It’s no small thing that people trust me with their dreams and I’m not going to betray that trust by trying to force anyone into the limelight.

But some of these stories keep tapping me on the shoulder, demanding to be shared.

So I’ve decided to share bits and pieces – without naming names or sharing photos or anything like that. So people’s privacy is protected, their dream remains sheltered from public view, while the essence of the story can come out and play.

The cure for writer’s block:

I received the following message from someone who was in my free Give Your Dream Wings course:

I know what my creative dream is and what the soul of it is, but I’m lacking the joy and flow to do it with ease and happiness. It’s still loaded with fear for me. I need to write and I want to do it but boy do I delay it every single time. That blank page is tough! Would your Creative Dream Circle help with that?

That question really hit me in the heart.? So many creatives know exactly what they want to be doing, but their dreams are, as this writer put it, LOADED with fear.

I hate knowing that there are people out there in this situation!? So much so that I’ve made it my life’s work to help people out of this situation.

Writer’s block, like all creative blocks, is an emotional block.

Facing the blank page is terrifying.? Going after your dream is terrifying. Starting is a terrifyingly vulnerable thing.

The secret?? Meeting your fear with creativity and love.

My response:

Yes! The Circle will definitely help with that. Fear is the biggest obstacle to dreaming, so I have a lot of material about it in the Circle. In the Creative Dream Incubator course (which you get in have circle) there is an in-depth module about how to work with fear effectively. Plus there is an “un-sticking station” to get quick help any time you get stuck. I use that almost every day.

It’s totally natural to be afraid, I find that learning how to work creatively with fear is one of the most important skills to learn to bring any dream to life.

She joined the Circle and one of the first things she did there was listen to my hour long audio class on How Meeting Fear With Creativity And Love Means You Never Have To Stay Stuck.

And then: she started writing!

She found the cure for writer’s block and she started writing!? This is from one of her first posts in the Circle:

Hello! I’m brand new here and decided this morning to get right into it by listening to the recording of “meeting fear with creativity and love”. I found it extremely helpful [removed for privacy]. I went on to write the piece I wanted to write…

She went on to write the piece she wanted to write.

Being un-blocked and in the flow really is that accessible.

Does this mean our heroine is never going to suffer from writer’s block, ever again?

Of course not.

She’ll have to keep meeting fear with creativity and love and learning new techniques for transforming fear and doubt and all the things that hold her back.

This is the secret to bringing any dream to life: to stay in the process of transforming the blocks.? To meet them there on the blank page – every day or every week.? To keep showing up no matter how hard your inner critics start to fight back.

I can promise that if you stay with it, it does get easier.

When I first left my day-job to be a full time Creative Dream Incubator, I had a major fear freak-out at least once a week.? But now?? In my fourth year of doing this full time?? I’ve had ONE fear freak-out all year. And it wasn’t even major.

You can transform your inner landscape.? You can make more space for freedom and glee and creativity and delight and trust and dreams come true.? You do not have to let fear stomp all over your dream garden.

This is what we do inside the Creative Dream Circle.

Creative Journal Prompts for Growing Money, Abundance and Possibility

Journal Prompts for growing money, abundance and possibility

Your journal is a powerful tool for working on your relationship with money.

By spending some time exploring in your journal, you open up new possibilities for how you can use money.

The truth is, you are MUCH MORE POWERFUL than money.

And you're smarter than money.

And you're more creative than money.

Money is just a tool and you've got what it takes to use money as a tool for growing your dreams, instead of experiencing it as a pain in your ass.

These journal prompts for growing money, abundance and possibility will help you get started.

These prompts are for playing with. Use them as little diving boards to dive off into other things to explore - the aim is to explore the rabbit holes that come up, not to answer every prompt perfectly.

Even when you're not sure about your answers or if it gets frustrating - stay in the process. Write out whatever comes to mind, follow your creative impulse.

You may have to dig through some crap before you get to the gold.

Creative Journal Prompts for Growing Money, Abundance + Possibility:

So far, my experience of money has been _____________.

I wish that money was _______________.

My soul believes that money is ______________.

If I could write a new story about money it would be all about ______________.

Writing a new story about money feels ___________.

Being EMPOWERED about money would mean __________________.

Being HAPPY about money would mean _____________________.

Being CREATIVE with money would mean __________________.

What am I willing to do, to work on my relationship with money?

There is a LOT to explore here!

My Creative With Money course is available as a bonus when you join Dream Book

I know money is one of the biggest obstacles to bringing dreams to life - but when you start to work with money in the way I teach in this class that can change.

The soul of money is the soul of support, nourishment and possibility. It's purpose is to serve you in the unfoldment of your purpose - to help you grow into who you really are.

We live in a world that has a deeply broken relationship with money.

Greed and corruption and injustice are the manifestations of this broken relationship.

Unfortunately, when we are born into a world where money functions in these ways it's easy for us to wind up with all sorts of "issues" with money.

That's why my money class is actually a group healing.

I spent five years developing this class because money is such a sensitive topic. I wanted this class to be creative and expansive and supportive and above all - healing.

So we can go into those places where our own relationship with money is broken, and heal it.

So that we can get back to our rightful connection with the soul of money.

It's not about "getting rich quick" or "busting through your money blocks".

It's about deep healing which brings: delight and expansion and possibility.

A celebration of the abundance that already lives within you, an opportunity to use your inner gifts in new ways and an invitation for more to come find you.

Which actually DOES bust through your money blocks so you are free to create whatever you want.

I created Creative With Money in 2015 and now it's available as a free bonus when you get my new course, Dream Book.

Too many soulful creative beings are STUCK when it comes to money. It’s time to change this.

creative with money

Money is an energy.

You are either using money to nurture your dreams or you are using money in ways that sabotage your dreams.?

There is no grey area.

It’s not about how much you have.? It’s about how you’re using what you’ve got.

It’s not about how much you have.? It’s about how you’re using what you’ve got.

I repeated that because the idea that If I had MORE money it would be easier to have what I want is keeping you from using what you’ve got to grow your dream NOW.

I’ve never heard of anyone saying “If I had MORE money it would be easier to have what I want” and then going out and GETTING more money and *pouf* dream life achieved, happily ever after.

I’ve heard TONS of people say “If I had MORE money it would be easier to have what I want” and then be annoyed and frustrated and stuck about it.? Myself included.

Money is a tool.? How you use that tool is everything.

Do you spend money every month on things that support you in living your best light and light you up with joy?

Or does that seem frivolous?

Do you feel like you have CHOICE when it comes to what you spend your money on, or is it all gone as soon as you get it?

That’s an ENERGY MANAGEMENT problem.? You do NOT have to wait until you have more money coming in to solve it.

In fact making more money won’t solve this one at all – the more money you’ve got coming in the faster it will be gone.

How does money FUNCTION in your world?

Money can either support DREAMS and GROWTH or it can support STUCKNESS.

We all have fear around money.

We live in a culture that is completely fucked up about money.? You don’t grow up in this world and magically end up with a healthy relationship with money.

It’s something you have to work on.

It’s something you have to consciously choose to create for yourself.

You absolutely have the ability to have a healthy and happy relationship with money – it’s in your nature.

You can start by getting out your journal and answering the three questions I asked in this post.? Next week I’ll share a whole bunch of creative journal prompts for exploring your relationship with money.

In the Creative With Money e-Course we use creativity, imagination and PLAY to make working on your relationship with money accessible and interesting and even (gasp!) FUN.

Journal Prompts for Finding your Dream

Journal Prompts for Finding your Dream

You'd love to go after your dreams... if only you knew what they were.

Your journal can totally help with this!

By spending some time exploring what your dreams might be, while engaging the amazing superpowers of your creativity and imagination, you open up the doors between you and your dream.

These journal prompts for finding your dream are for playing and creating with.

Use them as little diving boards to dive off into other things to explore - the most important part is following your creative impulse - going down all the rabbit holes - that's where the magic is. You don't have to answer each prompt exactly.

Even when you're not sure about your answers - stay in the process! The more time you spend with a journal prompt, the better the answer is going to get.

If you've been ignoring your dreams for a long time, they made need some time before they're ready to come out and play with you.

Journal Prompts for Figuring out what your dream is:

  • I feel happiest when:
  • I wish I could (list at least 50 things - keep coming back to this over the next few weeks to add things and MAKE SURE to add things that seem too stupid or impractical to both with):
  • The qualities/values that matter most to me are:
  • If I could live my life exactly how I wanted to, I would:
  • The things I like best about my life are:
  • The things I like least about my life are:
  • I think am being really true to myself when I:
  • If I was living more in tune with my own heart and soul, it would feel like:
  • If I knew what my dream was I would feel:

Take your time with this. Really explore each question and notice where your thoughts lead you to.

Then explore your answers to see what they are telling you about what your dream is.

This is brave work.

Being honest with yourself about your dreams can be TERRIFYING.

You may have a fear that if you find out what your dream is - everything will change and change is scary.

Or if you go after your dream and you fail - that will hurt too much.

Or that if you know what your dream is, you still won't know how to make it real, and that will be too frustrating.

Or if you knew what your dream is, you might go after it with everything you've got - and that would be too selfish.

Or deep down inside, you might already kind of know what your dream is, but you're sure you're not good enough to make it happen.? It's easier to just not know what it is.

This is hard stuff!

Navigating the path to making a dream real is all about navigating these feelings.

Courage is the primary tool of the Creative Dreamer.

If you're feeling apprehensive about exploring your dreams - you're not alone.? We're all scared sometimes.

Fears don't bother coming up unless you're onto something, so if you're feeling afraid of exploring this, that is a good sign.

If some fears do come up for you - check out my Creative Journaling Prompts for Overcoming Fear.

Are YOU A Creative Dreamer? This Is What You Need To Know:

creativedreamer

A Creative Dreamer is NOT satisfied following the rules, doing what is expected or living a dull, ordinary life.

Creative Dreamers believe that they are here on this planet to share their creative gifts or have a GRAND adventure (or both).

Creative Dreamers believe they are NOT here to do shit they don’t want to do.

Somewhere inside them, they KNOW that they’re not here to maintain the status quo and find doing so to be deeply unsatisfying.

But our society kind of runs on conformity.? This makes things very difficult for Creative Dreamers.

A lot of Creative Dreamers are sensitive souls and most Creative Dreamers struggle with developing the unique skills needed to bring a Creative Dream to life.

Not because they are not capable, but because there is a distinct lack of the right kind of support and education available to them.

As a result, most Creative Dreamers don’t EVER activate their full creative potential.

This is a problem.? Not just for us, but for the whole world.

Creative Dreams are gifts of spirit, woven out of healing, love, creativity and purpose.? Dreams Come True hold the possibility to heal and transform our world.

The world needs YOUR (yes, YOU reading this) dream made REAL.

Too many Creative Dreamers believe that:

  • Pursuing their dreams is SELFISH.
  • They would need more time and money to “make it work”.
  • NOW is not the right time.
  • Something has to change before they can start bringing their dreams to life.

None of this is true.

The only thing you have to do is DECIDE to start NOW. Everything else you need to learn about how to really make this happen – you can learn along the way.

We’re starting the next session of the Creative Dream Incubator e-Course on January 28.? It’s happening inside the Creative Dream Circle and I hope to see YOU there!

You’ll learn how your dream is NOT impossible, and how to start moving towards it, step by step, starting NOW – no matter WHAT is in the way.

Click here to join the Circle today.? Let’s make MAGIC together.

Hello 2014, Hello Dream

Not only does this mean you get a HUGE cost savings, you also get a whole YEAR of creative dream support!

Plus, you’ll get the Creative BUSINESS Incubator plug-in along with the Creative Dream Incubator.

If your dream does include making a living from your creative soul work, you’re going to LOVE the Creative Business Incubator!

It’s not one of those sleazy “make a zillion dollars online in 3 easy steps” kind of things.

It is an honest and vulnerable sharing of what I have learned while taking my creative soul work from thing-I-do-on-the-side to thing-that-supports-me-financially.

How it Works:

The Creative Dream Incubator e-course will happen inside the Creative Dream Circle. It includes:

The amazing Creative Dream Incubator 6 week e-course (playbooks, videos and audio meditations, up the wazoo!). We’ll be exploring this together in the Creative Dream Circle forum where I will be VERY active, answering your questions and offering my support as you bring your gorgeous dream to life.

The Creative BUSINESS Incubator plug in (additional playbooks and resources plus hours and hours of videos about how to apply the principles of Creative Dream Incubation to growing your business)

Group coaching call to close out the course. While I will be active on the forum answering your questions all the way along, this is a chance to ask me questions directly while we’re on the phone, or get coached through any tight spots you may find yourself in. If you can’t attend live, you can email me your questions and I’ll answer on the call. This will happen on Tuesday, March 11 at 2pm, Central. (There will be a recording)

Plus a WHOLE YEAR of follow-up support in the Creative Dream Circle, including access to all of the other courses I run in 2014.? For just $100.

Creative Journaling Prompts For The New Year

Today’s post is a Dreamtastic Creative Journals post. Dreamtastic is an ongoing (free!) e-course about using your journal as a tool for transformation, healing and dream-growing… new Dreamtastic posts show up regularly right here on my blog, click here to check out what’s happened in the course so far.
creative journal prompts for the new year

These prompts are for playing and creating with.

Use them as little diving boards to dive off into other things to explore – the most important part of creative journaling is following your creative impulse.

Use lots of different coloured pens, markers and pencil crayons (when you engage your creativity in your journaling you access your creative genius, the part of you that knows how to bring your dreams to life – plus it’s more fun that way!)

Use collage or make your own art to illustrate your answers.

As you get creative with this pay attention to your inner voice… once you’re in your creative flow it’s much easier for your intuition to speak to you.

If getting creative in your journal is new to you – check out Dreamtastic Creative Journals, (my free creative journaling e-course) for loads of videos & ideas to help you get started.

When you’re not sure about your answers – draw mandalas to help you connect to your inner wisdom.

The prompts are divided into 2 sections: looking back and looking forward.? Start with whichever one you feel drawn to.

Goodbye 2013. Looking back:

What was amazing in 2013?

What did you do in 2013 that you’re proud of?

What do you learn/discover that you want to bring into 2014?

What do you want to leave behind in 2013?

What are you most grateful for about 2013?

How did your dreams grow in 2013?

What did you do to help your dreams grow in 2013?? What worked?? What didn’t work?

How did YOU grow in 2013? What gifts and strengths do you have now that you didn’t have in 2012?

Is there anything you need to do to complete your year? Any unfinished business that you’d like to finish, and leave behind as you move into 2014?

Hello 2014! Looking forward:

List 5-10 things you’d like to have happen in 2014, in each of these different parts of your life:

health
relationships
creativity
purpose/career
money
self-love/self-care
spirituality
happiness
adventure/play

Remember that as you get creative with this pay attention to your inner voice… once you’re in your creative flow it’s much easier for your intuition to speak to you – so as you write this list brilliant ideas may come to you for how to bring these dreams to life.

Go back through your list and imagine how each of these things will make you happier in 2014.? If there is anything on your list that won’t make you happier – consider crossing it out.

What is your Big Dream for 2014?

Why do you want this?

Do you already know how to make this dream real, or is this something you need to learn more about first?

What’s your plan for giving this dream what it needs to thrive in 2014?? Brainstorm 10 things you can try.

What do you want to STOP doing in 2014?? And what are some things you can you do to make that as easy as possible?? How will not having these things in your life make you happier?

Write your year in review for 2014.

Then imagine yourself at the end of the 2014 that you described in your year in review – how are you different?? How did you grow?? What new strengths and skills do you have?? Does you-from-one-year-from-today have any messages or advice for you?

Here’s to a sparkletastic New Year, for all of us.

I would love to help you bring your brightest dreams to life in 2014 – join me in the Creative Dream Circle for a whole YEAR of Creative Dream Support.

Writing your 2014… a year in review of the year that hasn’t started yet.

In my first and second years of being a full time Creative Dream Incubator I was excited to write a year end review… to look over what I’d learned and how it all went and and plan out what I want to do different next year.

This year I feel very meh about that.

Though I did flip through my instagram to share some of my fave photos of the year…

Right now, what I really want is to look forward.

As I sat with that feeling, I realised that what I want to do is want to write a year end review for my business for 2014.

Do this with me… let’s zoom into December 2014 and look back on a truly sparkletastic year.

I started the year feeling fresh, focused and excited about what I wanted to create.? I had the clearest, solidest goal I’ve ever had for my business – to welcome 800 dreamers into the Creative Dream Circle by the end of the year.

This goal was a giant bundle of love.

Love for the dreamers and their courage & brilliance.

Love for the sweet, sparkling dreams.

Love for the Circle and it’s dream-growing magic.

Every time I thought about the 800 dreamers and their amazing dreams, my heart beamed.

With this much love on my side, I knew I could not fail.

With this much love on my side, I was able to heal my wounded relationship with “business”.

I have long thought of myself as “an artist, not a business person”.? I have been angry about the destructive effect a lot of big businesses have on our world – fueling my beliefs about how “business is bad”.? I have felt like I just don’t know how to successfully grow a business.

I started my business with a strong belief in the quality, power and importance of my work, fueled by purpose and spirit and love – and a belief that these things, not business skills, were enough to get me where I want to go.

As I learned more about business, I came to understand that these are 2 different things: your soul work and your business skills.

And most people are not naturally equally gifted in each.? I mean… It’s possible for lackluster products to become superstars in the marketplace.? It’s possible for superstar products to be virtually invisible in the marketplace.

And it seems true that as you polish and perfect the shining jewel of what you are here to offer you’re going to start looking for ways to get better at offering it.? For many, like me, this means a business.

So then the journey of activating and living your purpose merges with the journey of starting and growing a business.

Creativity, heart and soul cannot replace the need for practical business skills.? What they can do is fuel and activate the practical business stuff so that your business can be your (very helpful!) partner in bringing your creativity and your purpose to life.

I knew that already.? But in 2014 it changed.

It’s like I had marinated long enough in ideas about spiritual business and creative business to be able to live from them in a new way.? I developed a new sense of trust in my ability to do this.

I spent the first 35 years of my life marinating in ideas about how I am not a business person.? I needed to spend a few years marinating in ideas about how I am a capable and gifted business person before they could really clear out the old beliefs and sink in.

Ultimately what this means is approaching all aspects of my business from my creative genius, which means not being all tangled up in my limiting beliefs.? Being in the flow.

In hindsight, this harder to do before this year because I was still getting my business sea legs, so to speak.

Which is why I had to keep things smaller before.

Which is why, in 2014, I didn’t need to keep things small anymore.

I spread my business wings wildly and widely.

I tried all the things I knew to try, to get the word out about my work.? When things didn’t go as I’d hoped, I re-adjusted and tried again.

I stretched some more and sought out more ideas for things to try.? And I tried those.

I played with my business.?

I brought a whole new level of creative genius to it.? Just like being in my art studio – throwing paints down and fooling around and trying new things and experimenting and exploring.? I approached my business like a fantastically inspiring art project.

Meanwhile, I was more committed to my personal daily creativespiritual practice, to build stronger roots, so my dream tree could grow giant leafy branches.

And it worked.

My business grew wildly in 2014.

The Creative Dream Circle started to fill up… and as the Circle members practiced the art of Creative Dream Incubation and delighted in all the magic of that – word spread and momentum came to play.

The more fun I had, the larger the Circle got, the easier it became to grow it.

The important feelings + qualities of my 2014:

Trust. Alignment. Purpose. Spirit. Joy. Knowing. Stability. Growth… all of it Glowing with Love.

Writing this feels amazing.

I didn’t set out to write exactly what I wanted to have happened.? I started by looking at how I’m feeling about my goal for the year, and then followed those feelings and the story started to write itself.

When I got to the end it felt like a deep affirmation of how, as long as I stay committed to being true to myself, my spirit and heart, and to clearing/healing all the things that make that hard to do, of course I am going to get to somewhere that is gorgeous, abundant and fulfilling.

What’s your story for 2014?

Success, love, wild creative abandon – it’s all possible for you.

And I’d love to help you make it all come true, in the Creative Dream Circle.

How Do I Start Each Creative Journaling Session?

Creative Journaling Course

Dreamtastic Creative Journals is an ongoing (free!) e-course about using your journal as a tool for transformation, healing and dream-growing.

If you?re playing along in your journal, share your photos and/or blog posts on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using the #creativedreamincubator hash tag so we can easily find YOU!

How do you start the creative dream journaling? By meditation, by having a theme in your head?. How do you connect to your inner self?

I have been doing your Rainbow~licious Creative Healing Circle (still am) and there the guided meditation (by you) is the start. But I feel that to bring my dreams to live something more is needed. Maybe more practice…

Well, yes, the answer is in the question: practice.

As you explore and develop your own unique creative journal practice you’ll find what works for you.

You can watch the 30 Days of Creative Journals series to see how I approach this from day-to-day.?? I don’t have a specific starting process, it totally depends on where I’m at and what I need in the moment.

It’s less about finding a starting technique that works and more about developing a relationship with your practice.

This way, your journal can meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to be.

Some ideas for ways to start:

  • You can ask yourself: What do I need? as you get started and let the answer direct your explorations.
  • You can make a list of Things That Look Like Fun To You from my 30 Days of Creative Journals series? and try them out, one by one.
  • You can write about your day, complain about your boss, describe your dream in all it’s technicolor glory or write love letters to all the things you want to invite into your life.

Experiment and play.? The more time you spend journaling, the more you’ll learn about what does and does not work for you.

The way I approach my journals is so different today than it was just a year ago, it’s changing all the time.

And, sometimes education is needed.

Bringing your dream to life is usually a bigger job than anyone can do on their own.? I’ve worked with TONS of teachers and mentors in the process of bringing my dreams to life.

There is something extra-magical about working with a transformational program.? Programs create a container for the magic to happen in, they lead you through the process so you can play and explore with confidence knowing that you are headed towards where you want to be.

creative journaling
This is an example of a Treasure Map I made in my journal that I made during one of my Virtual Playdate events, where I lead the group through a transformative journaling processes over the phone.

A good teacher will introduce you to whole new worlds of possibility and show you how to create Creative Dream Momentum.

But it’s your commitment to your own personal practice that determines how much you and your dreams are going to thrive.
