These are times for DREAMING

(That's Bear and I doing one of our favourite forms of dreaming... I am sitting in my new comfy chair working on an embroidery project and Bear is sitting on the back of the chair, looking out the window, watching the world go by)

These are times for DREAMING.

For believing and embodying that a better world is possible for all of us.

This is not easy!

These are times when your dreams need you to go DEEPER.

Going deeper is pretty much always very scary and very difficult to do. We almost never understand how POWERFUL and LAYERED our resistance to going deeper can be.

Over the last 15 years, I have been exploring this dynamic and looking for ways to engage with it. Looking for how to create the smallest and most accessible ways in.

Now that I have come to this place where I have all this experience and have built entire libraries of tools to support this work… now we come to a place where everything just got harder.

We have arrived at place where our dreams, our souls, and our futures need us to go so much DEEPER still.

It's scary. AND we are ready for this.

Here’s HOW to go deeper:

Instead of working with your dream as a thing to manifest or achieve - work with your dream as your PARTNER. Listen to the soul of your dream and let it lead you sometimes (or even most of the time, if you're ready for the advanced work of dreaming).

Have a commitment to SHOW UP for that work in the smallest possible way as consistently as you can.

(This is already what we're doing in the membership! Especially The Dream Lab, Dream Book and Dream Book 2026 are all working from the perspective of PARTNERING with your dream)

And then:

Be checking in regularly to reflect on how this is going and notice what your dream is asking of you next.

Weekly: Dream Status Report

Monthly: New Moon Intention Setting Ritual

And at the same time:

The space between where you are and where you want to be is an alchemical process. Treat it as such!

This means: every time you are working with your dream... BE WITH whatever is there. Don't try to deny or avoid the hard parts. Just BE WITH whatever is there, if that's an idea or motivation or fear or exhaustion. Whatever it is, tend to that, and this brings you deeper into that alchemical process.

For example:

I know what I want to do this morning, and I feel a little lost.

I am tempted to push through and “just do it”

But I know that I need to go deeper into the ALCHEMY of Creative Dreaming which means I need to be with myself, where I actually am, which is lost. So I need to use The Un-Sticking Station process to BE WITH it.

Ok.

Hi Lost.

I see myself. In a meadow/field/maybe the foothills of mountains.

So there sure is a lot of empty space here, hey?

Yeah, so many ways I could go! I have no idea which path to take.

Is that true?

What do you mean?

If it REALLY true that you don’t know which path to take, or is there something else going on?

My lost self bursts into tears.

No, it’s not true. I know which path to take. It’s kind of lit up over there. But… I’m so scared I just freeze and then when I freeze I forget what I know.

Yeah I get that.

This is so stressful! Like I have the fear about the path, but I am kind of pushing that down to keep it away from me. And then I have the freeze. And then I have fear that I’ll never un-freeze. I’ll never know how to act.

I am tempted to offer some advice about how “pushing things down” isn’t an effective way to deal with them but that doesn’t feel appropriate here.

What do you need? Is there anything I can do?

I just want to lie down and cry.

Let’s do it! I spread out a blanket.

Lying down on the soft blanket in the meadow, now it feels like a meadow, now I am in the perspective of my lost self instead of engaging with this part of me.

And now the meadow is in the foothills and I am worried about Nazis marching over the mountains and finding me.

Now I am thinking about all the people in danger, everywhere in the world. The sheer terror of the capitalist/imperialist machine and it’s unending greed and depravity.

I know the path ahead and I see how fully valid my fears are, and how fully valid it is to freeze in the face of them.

And I know how brave it is, to face them anyway. To accept the freeze that will inevitably happen. To know I will thaw. To trust that I I’ll gather what I need to walk the path anyway.

I feel all these different terrors roaming around in my body.

I’m safe here, in this meadow, for now. I don’t know when the Nazis might come over the mountains and bring the terror here. And I do know that everyone isn’t safe. I feel my values pushing back against my fear… not wanting me to give in it.

Suddenly I am back in myself as in the me who is trying to engage with the lost part of me, instead of being embodied in the lost part of me.

I want to know more about the path that is lit up. What makes that path scary? I mean, given that everything everywhere is scary, what is particularly scary about this particular path?

I offer my lost/scared self some tea from a thermos and a cupcake. (ALL parts of me respond well to treats)

There’s just no place to hide on that path. And not as many places to stop and rest as I would like.

Oh. That does sound scary. I’m also curious about not being able to stop and rest. Do you see everything I am doing to really respect my actual capacity and move at a human pace, trying to detangle from all the ways I have adopted colonialism/capitalism’s pace and find my actual pace?

Yeah, I appreciate that. This is different. It’s like I need to BE who I really AM, like… I don’t know how else to say this but ALL THE FUCKING WAY.

Oh. Yes. I get it.

That’s actually what is on the other side of all of the work I have been doing, understanding what it means to decolonize my relationship with myself. As a white/settler person there are all these ways I can just… check out. I’d have to stop doing that.

Suddenly both my lost self and the part of me who is trying to engage with the lost self come together and see it clearly.

That path is not about what I DO next, which I thought it was.

It’s about how I BE next.

My dreams and my soul and my life are all asking me to BE my next level self.

I’ve been doing all this Inner Work and Dream Work and this feels safe. It’s all happening in the comfort of my own world.

The question, the real question, now is: how to I bring that into how I AM, in the Outer World?

It feels like there is something that I’ve been working on, on the inside, that needs to be embodied on the outside. And I can’t quite put my finger on WHAT it is.

My mentor/witch/coach self steps in to offer some next steps to explore:

Dream Self meditation

Maybe even the Dream Self Challenge from Dream Book (this is further into Dream Book in content that is released in month 6)

And... just sit with the question.

Your dream comes with questions. Lots of them.

I just added a new tool to the Dream Book 2026 program, a booklet called I HAVE QUESTIONS

Your dream comes with at least a million questions.

Some of these questions are so uncomfortable to sit with that we avoid them, and so we never find the answer we need, and so over time this makes us abandon our dreams.

Some of these questions… are actually the wrong question to ask.

Some of these questions…. you already know the answer, you just need to give yourself permission to really trust yourself.

Sitting with the questions is a nuanced process.

Giving your questions MORE SPACE will help you find better answers.

The I HAVE QUESTIONS booklet will help you do this.

Print it out, fold it up (I made a video showing you how) and tuck it into your Dream Book 2026 so it’s right there when the questions come up.

The magic is still here

Things! Are! So! Scary! And! Triggering! Out! There!

AND

The magic is still here.

This morning I sat with the immensity of everything that is happening and the immensity of how my own soul is asking me to respond.

I sat with how this feels too big and I feel too small.

And like, how I have felt that way about EVERY DREAM I HAVE EVER HAD and how this feels TOTALLY DIFFERENT and it is actually THE SAME.

I sat with how I feel like, 15 1/2 years ago I felt the push to make the Creative Dream Incubator my full time work… so that I could be ready for these times. That I would need 15 years of experience to feel ready to do this work in these times.

And then I used the Un-Sticking Station to meet with the fear I had.

And it went on and on.

I shifted between being my scared self and being my wiser self trying to engage with my scared self and having other parts of me crash the party to try to derail things.

And in the end… it all came together. I found my answer inside of my fears. I know what to do next.

The magic is still here.

Show up.

Be with the thing that is there. (Even when that thing is a fear or an obstacle)

This will move you forward.

Just remember that the path won’t look like you expect.

Keep Your Heart Fire Burning [Dream Status Report]

There are journaling sheets for doing the Dream Status Report! These are available for everyone, not just membership members. Download them here.

Successful creative dreaming needs a lot of reflection as you go.

Successful just meaning you are happy with how you're engaging with your dreams, your life, your soul + your creativity.

We do this every month on the New Moon Intention Setting Ritual calls.

I do this every week with these Dream Status Report prompts, which I wobbled with a little this January.

And I am adding a new monthly reflection and goal setting process for business stuff for 2026 as I am approaching marketing in new ways so I want to give myself this space to check in, reflect and evaluate as I go.

So today is my Dream Status Report day AND it's the first of a new month.

Also last week I overdid it on a few fronts (verrrrrry easy to do right now!) so I canceled plans yesterday AND today to give myself more quiet recovery space. I think this is crucial for sensitive people right now -NOT to "stay regulated and good vibes only your way through late stage capitalism and fascism" but to recognize that you need to take EXTRA care of yourself right now.

So this morning I stayed in bed an extra hour reading a book, then I had a sudden burst of energy so I put my bedding in the laundry, sorted through my clothes to figure out my other laundry, and cleaned the bathroom.

Canceling plans 2 days in a row felt shitty, like I can't keep up with the life I want to live. BUT/AND giving myself the extra "empty space" was exactly what I needed.

Keep Your Heart Fire Burning

One of my mottos for this year and beyond is to keep my heart fire burning. And I am embroidering this in BIG letters on the back of the artists smock I am sewing myself, and covering in embroidery as I go.

Once I felt my heart fire was extinguishing on Friday evening, I stopped doing things and rested until I could feel it come back to life. So I am proud of myself for this.

I am doing my Dream Status Report and the February Creative Dream Incubator Business Planning slowly throughout the day while also tidying, doing laundry and cooking up a bit batch of tofu noodle soup for dinners this week (like chicken noodle soup style with grated tofu that you fry in a bunch of herbs and it tastes amazing).

This feels like such a good way to start a new week and a new month. Like a big day-long deep breath.

This is maybe my favourite thing I’ve ever found in my journal.

I found this post in my draft folder... it's from last summer. And today feels like the right day to finally get it ready to post!

I don't need to figure this out.

That's all it said. I don't remember what it was about but it feels so liberating to look back in my journal and see it.

We spend a lot of time figuring things out and in a sense yes of course we need to do that.

WE NEED TO STAY ENGAGED WITH OUR DREAMS.

AND

We don't usually figure things out with our heads, you know?

The answers come by staying engaged, open and curious. Engaged above all else.

And sometimes we can get kind of rigid about wanting to understand what we are doing.

But we never actually have to figure anything out.

Keep showing up and possibilities appear.

It's so interesting to me that I found this post today.

Today I had my first therapy session of the year, and my therapist showed me an index card she had made of all the things I was working on in 2025. She said I was being so intentional about how I wanted to start the year that I she wanted to keep track.

For me, 2025 felt like an important year for figuring things out.

I did the Year of Hope project, to try to figure out how to feel hopeful which felt necessarily to me to build the foundation for my new dreams.

I sat with the question... How do I BE the artist I AM? which took so many twists and turns over the year.

And then I had lots of goals around creating new ways of relating to my work, new business systems, routines - all of it.

2025 was the year I went from "going through a divorce" to "being divorce" and ready to be in my new life. In 2025 I took the time to re-set my home and my life in every way I could. I de-cluttered and re-organized and got so many lamps and created a more cozy right-fit space of this next chapter.

But also: all the stuff of being in the thick of midlife, being self employed while new trade wars get started every day, increasing violence and political turmoil everywhere in the world and here in Canada.

I am looking back at myself from the other side of all of that "figuring it out"

I sat with so many difficult feelings and big, impossible-feeling questions last year.

I didn't make myself figure it out. I didn't rush to answers. I sat with questions. I let the questions multiply and get bigger. I kept showing up.

And then, over the last month, as I've been setting my intentions in my Dream Book 2026... answering the prompts and digging into what I really want next and why and all the feelings that get sparked in that... so many things have fallen into place.

I am making SO MUCH ART.

That permission to NOT figure it out, coupled with the commitment to keep showing up... brought me to where I wanted to be.

This is how it works.

Keep showing up.

I suggest using the Hello Day practice and/or the Dream Lab practice to help you keep showing up and moving through the process.

I made a video to share today and then decided not to share it.

I have a few blog posts ready to go and they also don’t feel right to share right now.

So far this week, when I share things that feel like "business as usual" that feels wrong…

But when I write things that are all about what’s happening… that feels wrong too. I don’t know that my voice is particularly needed.

Of course, just going silent… also doesn’t feel right.

But I want to be clear - I'm not not sharing the video today because I don't think this work matters right now.

It does!

I'm just honouring my own feelings, and giving myself the space I need by slowing down a little.

What I have been doing a LOT MORE ART and I feel deep in the process of DREAMING.

Keeping my own sphere of influence grounded and creative and this is so good and this is not what I want to do long term and this is all I can do right now.

And I am doing the Hello Day meditation to give myself space to check in with myself.

This Friday we have a Co-Dreaming/Co-Working call - I am looking forward to that time to get together, to sit with our feelings, make space for our dreams, and see what comes from that.

This is the work right now!

Keep listening to yourself, keep listening to your dreams.

Make space for your dreams to change as the world changes, if they want to.

Also hold onto the things that matter to you.

Listen to yourself and your values about where and how you feel called to act.

And take good care of your self.

I asked for help from a self-proclaimed expert and he derailed my dream

Sometimes, you will need to get advice/guidance from others people about your dream.

Sometimes that is so helpful! The right bit of advice at the right time can change everything.

And sometimes you need to create your own way to do it and just keep experimenting.

And knowing when you are where in that takes a LOT of self-listening and self trust.

(This is why I want to help you PRACTICE Creative Dreaming more often)

Sometimes you will go to someone for help and they will absolutely give you the WRONG advice that derails your dreams.

I've been thinking about this a lot because I recently had a business coaching session with Pamela Slim who I’ve known forever and trust completely. It was immensely helpful for me to talk through my plans and ideas with her, and I have felt so much less overwhelmed since then!

SO MUCH less overwhelmed.

And because we did a deep dive into everything during that coaching session... I’ve also been reflecting on how I got to where I am, where my business is currently considerably smaller than it used to be.

And that is due to a lot of factors that a lot of us have experienced the last few years!!

But it is also from seeking outside advice - only that time it was from someone who was not, in any way, trustworthy.

I asked for help from a self-proclaimed expert and he derailed my dream.

This is many years ago. My website had been hacked badly, my host was useless at helping me fix it, and I realized, after I hired someone else to fix it, that I couldn’t stay with my host if I wanted to have a secure website.

At that time the membership/courses part of my business was separate from my public website, so I went to the person hosting that part, explained my situation, specifically that SEO was my main source of traffic and income and I’d worked for years to build it up on my website, and if I moved to their hosted system - would I still have my SEO?

This guy gave me his word that his system was BETTER than what I had.

So I moved my website.

Then I lost ALL of my Google traffic.

And it never came back.

I am talking 3,000-10,000 NEW people landing on my website every month for years on end from Google searches…. gone.

When I showed my analytics to this host, he was stunned. And he had no idea how to fix it.

And then I realized that he never really did understand SEO at any depth, he was just cocky.

Which is so easy to do online! Act like you know everything and are the best and charge accordingly and people just believe you!

I never got my search traffic back. And of course it’s had a huge impact on my business - the way for new people to find my just dried up overnight!

But in the years since, so much about Google and all of the social media algorithms have changed so much that at this point I’m not sure it matters.

I wanted to share how HUGE the spectrum is from, helpful to damaging, when we ask for outside help or advice for our dreams.

There are a lot of people out there who want to sell solutions to problems. There are a lot of gurus and self proclaimed experts. It’s so important to not just believe what people say when they say they have the advice we need… It’s so important to listen to our guts.

Even though that won’t always matter, our guts won’t always know.

It feels like things are a little heightened, when our dreams are involved because dreams stir up SO MANY FEELINGS and can confuse the matter.

We’re going to make mistakes.

We may very well trust the wrong person at the wrong time, like I did. (Although - my website had been hacked, I was in a pressured situation, and I made the best decision I could given my circumstances. I have forgiven myself for trusting that guy)

We can contemplate…. maybe this wasn’t a mistake maybe it was the universe re-directing us.

We can.. we MUST.. validate our feelings about all of it.

But in the end, we just have to recognize that asking for advice about our dreams is really complicated.

Your dream is precious. You understand it better than anyone... And your dream does sometimes need things that you can't do alone.

It's such a delicate juggling act.

There is nothing that can bring clarity + energy like ✨DOING YOUR DREAM✨

I had shared at some point this month that I am now doing my Dream Status Report practice on Sundays instead of Fridays, and doing it in my Dream Book 2026 daily planner.

I didn't do it yesterday.

So I am doing it this morning.

I am proud to report that I am still prioritizing my art, which has been MAGIC.

While I want to be open to other mediums, my artist self is REALLY into textile art so that's where we're at now. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED to do the work of tending to my other dream, the Creative Dream Incubator.

Hours spend stitching is one of the best medicines for me. That's how I know I really FOUND my art. My body and mind settle in, in a way that helps me access my deeper inner wisdom.

I have more energy and clarity. I trust myself more. Everything feels easier for me.

✨This is the magic of DOING your dream✨

I am only doing "test projects" and "skill re-building projects" right now. I am not making art to sell or anything.

BUT I did make my living as a textile artist in my 20s, though the finances were a constant struggle and eventually had to give it up to get a day job... it feels like actually I pick up where I left off, only now as my more confident and connected self, and that actually... making some art to show and sell will be a fairly straightforward thing at this point, and not the huge complicated mess it felt like back then.

BUT... I am not doing that yet.

Just the fact that I am MAKING THE ART I WAS DREAMING OF MAKING right now in this small and achievable way has shifted everything for me.

I think we need more of this right now: The magic of DOING YOUR DREAM and how energizing this is.

I don't meant we should ignore the world and just do what makes us happy. I mean the deeper way that connecting with our dreams is connecting with our souls, and creative magic, and medicine, and authenticity, and how this strengthens and energizes us. It actually helps us to LIVE OUR VALUES OUT LOUD in the world.

To get into dreaming on that deeper level - we have to be doing the deeper work of really BEING WITH ourselves.

Your dream is your soul showing you your path. It's showing you who you really are and what you are capable of and what your most authentic self looks like.

Your dream is also a creative and spiritual response to the world around you.

As the world changes your dreams are likely to change.

And, as the world changes, if this freaks you out (which is a totally valid response!) you might look for ways to respond that soothe your feelings, instead of look for ways to respond that feel the most authentic, meaningful and true-to-your-values for you.

So, the work of sitting with ourselves, soothing our feelings and coming back to our deeper truth remains the most important part of the work of creative dreaming.

Without that, we stop knowing what our dreams even are.

For those who have been here a while - you know from my blogs that I have given myself A SHIT TON OF SPACE to figure out my new dreams after my divorce. At first I looked for a new dream to cling to, to soften the sharpness of that time. But when I let go of that grasping to find a new dream, I gave myself space to really be with my feelings, went down a lot of rabbit holes, eventually found my way to the Year of Hope project (which I did in 2025) and to the exploration of what it would look like to BE the artist that I AM and... I spent a year sitting with that question alone.

All of that kind of looked like me floundering.

But that's not what it was.

That IS what it looks like to truly make space for yourself and your process. To give yourself ALL THE SPACE YOU NEED to find new dreams, to not put yourself onto some kind of schedule with it.

To listen to and validate your feelings and needs.

And to trust yourself to find the right dream at the right time.

You've got to let that process take the time it takes.

Anyone who ALWAYS knows exactly what their dream is and is ALWAYS sure about what to do next with it... isn't truly listening to their soul's deepest callings. They are not dreaming their most authentic dreams. They are no longer growing as people because your dream wants to GROW YOU and that looks MESSY and WEIRD sometimes and it means spending quite a bit of time in the UNKNOWN.

The UNKNOWN is such a powerful alchemical space to be in.

So much is changing right now. We have to give ourselves space to change with it.

This is why I made the Dream Book 2026 program for 2026.

It’s a way to HOLD SPACE for yourself so you can go deeper into your swirling constellation of thoughts, feelings, dreams, questions… all of it.

This is why I put the Hello Day practice in there as the first thing... Hello Day is a way to sit with yourself, your thoughts and feelings and your dreams, and just... be with whatever happens there. This practice alone can be deeply healing and help you orient to your inner compass while the world spins erratically.

Membership members, please, DO THE HELLO DAY PRACTICE somewhat consistently. Give yourself that space to be with yourself. This makes everything else about creative dreaming easier. It gives you a more solid foundation to dream from.

This is so awkward

Yesterday’s Co-Dreaming/Co-Working call left me with a lot on my mind! (Membership members - get the replay here)

It felt really healing to hear everyone speak so honestly about where they’re at. How hard it was to stay in the meditation we do at the start of the call. Attention bouncing all over the place. Going from feeling frozen about our dreams, to feeling pressured to take action, to feeling like action is impossible, to spiralling into depression. Not wanting to dream at all right now.

It felt like… Yes, this is an accurate description of how it FEELS to be in the world right now, for smart, sensitive people who are not shutting down their feelings and are trying to stay present.

And that's just hard.

We talked about how to balance the desire to get out there and fight for the future we believe in with the desire to focus on our own dreams. And having limited capacity for either!

And how uncomfortable it can feel to be in that privileged position where you still can focus on your own dreams.

Recently I wrote about how you can let these times change you. (You can read that one here)

I think we’re in that. Allowing the change.

I think this is what it looks like and it's just messy AF sometimes.

Holding onto our dreams, but not with the kind of death grip that doesn’t let anything new in.

Remembering that activism is a way we dream for the world.

And that our dreams are how our soul calls us towards our True Self, and that we are all connected and our dreams are all connected and EVERYTHING is all connected.

Making space for our thoughts and feelings. Trying not to judge. Just… making space. Being with. Feeling the feelings. Thinking the thoughts. Journaling journaling journaling.

I know for sure - this is the time when artists, healers and visionaries need to GET TO WORK.

But what means, what your work is in these times, is not always clear.

THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO PRACTICE MORE THAN EVER.

Practicing Creative Dreaming means practicing sitting with our thoughts, feelings, inspiration, gifts, inner knowing and big questions. Making space for everything. Going deeper.

The answers are in there.

The questions are bigger than ever so it makes sense that it takes more time to get to them. And the right answer DESERVES this time.

This is why I made the Dream Book 2026 program for 2026.

It’s a way to HOLD SPACE for yourself so you can go deeper into your swirling constellation of thoughts, feelings, dreams, questions… all of it.

Unsticking “I am not doing enough”

One of the things about having a Creative Dream PRACTICE, and making space for yourself to SHOW UP for yourself and your dreams, just sitting with your dreams and feelings and needs and all the stuff that is happening…

Is that it shows you things you don’t notice if you are moving at the pace of your life.

And those things can be CAUSING PROBLEMS for you, and you notice the problems and the impact they have on you but you don’t notice the cause.

Slowing down and PRACTICING Creative Dreaming helps you notice these things, AND gives you space, approaches and tools to actually DEAL with them.

For example, in just showing up and sitting with myself I noticed this feeling like…

I am not doing enough.

So, based on the work we do in the Un-Sticking Station practice, I met with that feeling and… because a Creative Dream Practice is GENERATIVE, HEALING and ALCHEMICAL… I changed it.

I am sharing this post to show… this is possible. This is what I mean when I say that the space between where you are and where you want to be is ALCHEMICAL. Everything can change. Everything is possible.

But you can only access the alchemy if you are showing up to PRACTICE and have the structure you need to apply those changes. (In the membership, this is where Dream Book 2026, Dream Book itself, and the monthly New Moon Intention Setting calls come together to make this magic happen)

This is my journal entry:

I am not doing enough.

Where is this feeling in your body?

In my hips, like in the back of my hips. I think? Is that weird?

Is that where it is?

Yup, it’s a sensation that wants to push my hips forward, Like “get moving”

Can you ask the sensation… why does it think you’re not doing enough?

Because I’m not doing what I was doing????!!!!?!?! *PANIC*

Oh. Yes I see. It’s like the hips were ENGAGED and MOVING and it was all consistent and that movement and consistency felt like “I am working hard so I am doing the right thing” and it feels very uncomfortable to stop doing that.

I offer my hips a hug, and a mug of tea. One with ashwaghanda in it that will calm them right down.

Suddenly we’re sitting comfortably at a picnic under a tree. My hips are lounging luxuriously, really into the tea.

My heart takes over the conversation.

So, hips, I want to say thank you for how you’ve kept moving all this time, and tried so hard to do the right thing. We all appreciate this so much.

AND…

You can see how things have been changing around you?

Kind of? But mostly I thought if I just kept moving I could keep things from changing too much.

Ahhhh, I see. Yes that makes perfect sense!! That’s such a reasonable way to respond…

AND…

It feels good to take a break, hey?

Oh definitely. Please pass the banana bread.

Passes the banana bread.

Yeah, so I (me! heart!) was the one who decided to take the break and I guess you didn’t quite hear me.

It’s hard to hear things like that when you’re so focused on “keep moving”

I bet it is! And again, I am so grateful for you for trying to hard to keep things moving.

AND…

I asked us all to slow down, take a break, so I could have a chance to meet with different parts of us and kind of re-group. Like maybe make new plans for how to move forward in a better way. Does that make sense to you?

Well, when I was KEEP MOVING MODE no that wouldn’t make sense, that would cause panic, but now that I am sitting here yes I see it.

OK good! Because I don’t want to stop forward movement I want to look for the ways to move forward that make sense for where we are now, and where we want to go next.

I’ve met with my values, dreams, hopes, creative genius, courage and inner wisdom and they’re all on the same page. I’ve met with a few external advisors as well to help me see the parts that are kind of hidden from where I am, and map out new plans that take my current-day needs into account.

Wow! I was so upset and panicked to see some parts around me slowing down, and I felt like I was the only one keeping to the plan and I was a bit resentful about that but now I see you were making a BETTER plan!

Yes! I’m so glad you can see that now. And I do want your feedback on the plan too!

You are my… forward movement generator, is that right?  You’re not just my hips, right?

That’s right.

My hips now have several binders in front of them.

But now that I have looked through all of these meeting notes I realize… I was not actually rooted in things like values, inner wisdom, authenticity, all these good parts. I was rooted more in old fears and stories that we don’t need to keep carrying. It’s almost like… my hips flip back to the oldest meeting notes in the binders… yeah, it’s like a bunch of you agreed to drop some of these stories which were never our authentic TRUTH, but I missed that meeting so I didn’t know and I’ve been carrying them. Frankly I had started to feel like I was carrying them for everyone, I guess I could feel that most of us had dropped them and the weight was heavier on me.

Oh wow, this is actually why I didn’t hear any of your messages about slowing down and meeting to re-group. I was so weighted down by the extra weight of carrying these stories alone.

Wow, hips. I am SO SORRY. I did not mean to do that to you.

Hips smile at me.

It’s ok! no real harm done, right? I just kept doing what I was doing… frankly I could have stopped and asked why carrying those stories was starting to feel so heavy, I could have asked for help but I just kept going. It actually feels like I was stuck in movement? And I’m so glad that you stopped to check in with me today. Please pass the banana bread again, and I’m going to need this recipe!

Right? I think the secret is that I put a ton of walnuts in, and I got confused and put extra butter in too.

________

This isn't a full and total forever resolution of this part of me who panics when I slow down. But it does give me a whole new way to relate to that part of myself, which creates new options.

When you have a dream, but it feels IMPOSSIBLE

This is the first page of You Are The Magic, a Guide + Journal for Creative Dreaming.

It says:

This is how dreams begin: When you look to where you want to be, there is no path.
Just an impossible chasm and no way to cross it.

This "Impossible Chasm Scenario" actually comes up A LOT in Creative Dreaming.

It's not that there is ONE impossible chasm for you to figure out, and once you've got yourself to the other side of that, everything is possible from then on out.

To be honest, finding your way through the impossible chasm... will sometimes lead you to the next impossible chasm.

So this is something to keep in mind. Shifting your relationship with the impossible chasm WILL make it easier for you to move forward with your dreams.

Whether it's your WHOLE ENTIRE DREAM or just the next step, when something feels impossible, take a breath, maybe get a little picnic ready for yourself, and sit with it.

You can't get to your dream by running way from the feelings that get sparked by the impossible chasm.

Sitting with your feelings doesn't solve every problem and get you to your dream, but it does give you some space to get grounded in your inner truth, and be able to hear your inner wisdom about what to do.

For Creative Dream Incubator Membership members, tools for sitting with it:

For When You’re too Upset To Do This: 17 minute Alchemy meditation to meet the "this is too hard I can't be with this" feelings, and very slowly + gently start to soothe yourself.

Yikes! I am Having A Lot Of Feelings: 14 minute alchemy meditation video and journaling sheet for sorting through all the feels.

The Un-Sticking Station is maybe not the best named tool because you don’ have to be stuck for it to help… bring any and every UPSET into the Un-Sticking Station to work with it. There are multiple meditations in there, for doing the deeper inner work over time. Not the best option for right when you're freaking out, but this is where you do the work of shifting the places in you that do freak out about your dreams, and create new patterns that make it easier for you to dream outside of your comfort zone.

Or go through the Creative Dream Alchemy Library of Inner Work practices to find the one that fits for where you're at.

Follow the ✨⚡️HEART ZINGS⚡️✨

One of the things we do to set up the Dream Book 2026 notebook is to make a page for your 2026 Dream Self.

This is who you are at the end of the year. All the ways you've grown and changed from the way you showed up this year.

As I was connecting with my 2026 Dream Self I wrote:

✨HOURS AND HOURS OF CREATIVE TIME DAILY✨

And I could instantly feel the HEART ZING feeling of how it feels to make things for hours and hours every day AND to see those things growing into a satisfying body of work.

And with that HEART ZING came the clarity that I was not set up, in any way, for hours and hours of making.

That’s how it works a lot of the time!

When you open up and let yourself really feel how much you want the thing you want, that feel can be tied to new perspectives, and/or it can be tied to some really uncomfortable feelings like not being sure you can do it, or fear or what you would have to give up to really make this happen.

Feeling into your desire opens the door, and then all of the uncomfortable parts of creative dreaming can come through it just like the magic, inspiration and clarity can come through.

What I saw is that: I already to make art every day in one form or another. Usually in my journals. Sometimes embroidery.

But there is a lot of stopping and starting when it comes to my larger creative projects. And there just isn’t any way of staying engaged for hours and hours with it… or in my overwhelm, I just end up too distracted to go deep in the way I want to.

I’d been slowly getting a few BIG embroidery projects together. Once the project is ready… I can easily spend hours and hours each day embroidering. In fact - try and stop me from embroidering for hours every day when I have a good project set up. I start to wake up earlier, and go to bed earlier and I just find the time. I am ENGAGED.

Once I have a big project going it is DEEPLY AND WILDLY GENERATIVE. I have more energy. I have more motivation. I have more enthusiasm. Everything changes. You know what I mean, right?

PLUS when I am spending even 1 hour a day embroidering, that physical act of moving the thread with my hands is MAGIC. It grounds me in my creativity in a way that creates new possibilities.

It is GENERATIVE in every sense of the word. It generates magic and creates so many new possibilities.

Given that I know all of this about how amazing it is for me to embroider every day, can you believe I hadn’t embroidered in months?

Isn’t that wild?

But this is what we all do.

Every time I’ve spoken, deeply, to a creative person who was stuck in any way - they had the same kind of story to share. There was a creative practice that LIT THEM THE FUCK UP and there were barriers to getting themselves set up to go all in.

Everything happens in cycles.

I was genuinely doing my best to get some new projects set up and I was tired and overwhelmed and moving slow.

And even though I knew that BEING IN THE PRACTICE would be the solution to being tired and overwhelmed… I just couldn’t get into it.

Until I could.

Now that I am here, inside the magic of the practice, I see so many ways to set up new projects that would be so much simpler than the two projects I had been trying to set up since fall. Like, these particular projects are just incredibly time consuming to get to the embroidery stage.

(One is a big, puffy and very long artists’s smock which I had to find the fabric for, then cut it out, then sew it together enough to start embroidering, which means buttonholes, a collar - the kind o detailed sewing I don’t always have the capacity for. The other is a motorcycle jacket made out of twill which also needed layers of interfacing attached to the fabric pieces, and quite a bit of re-cutting because it’s asymmetrical and I ended up cutting some pieces backwards.)

But when I was there, exhausted and overwhelmed and moving so slow… the truth is that moving slow was the medicine I needed at that time. That’s where I was.

Permission to know how great it would feel to be really DOING IT and permission to know that I just wasn’t quite there yet and this was a time of resting and contemplating and feeling and… there is just so much inner work happening in the times when the outer work is stuck.

We cannot stay in that 100% ON AND LIT THE FUCK UPPPPP!!! mode all the time.

This is actually why I added the Dream Book 2026 program to the membership - it’s a way to connect with your dreams without having to be on or ready to work on them in any way.

It’s a way to receive clarity and knowing and gently be supported no matter where you are in the process… because you are SHOWING UP.

Since we spend time at the beginning setting intentions and remembering that this is an ALCHEMICAl process and so - as long as we keep showing up things can change we don’t necessarily have to know how to change them… each time we open up our notebook/planner, we tap into all of that intentionality.. just by showing up.

We actually are connecting with our dreams, even just to show up to sit with the Hello Day prompts: How do I feel? What do I want? What do I need? This is how we tend to ourselves and our gifts WHERE WE ARE within a container that helps us MOVE TO WHERE WE WANT TO BE.

This is the magic.

Keep showing up.

Ways to mark and celebrate PROCESS over PROGRESS.

This photo marks a huge celebratory moment and turning point for me.

I wish I could explain how HAPPY I am about this.

I've been using the same Molotow brand refillable paint pens since 2011. I replace the nibs, sometimes the internal mechanism breaks and I have to replace a whole pen, but mostly I just refill them.

Until recently, I didn't buy refills very often. Those smaller on the left in the photo would last YEEEEAAARRRSSS. It was only black that I would re-buy, like every 3-4 years.

Last year I got a new black refill in January and it was EMPTY by the middle of December.

That marks my first year using a whole refill of ink within a year.

So this year when I was buying new refills, I noticed that THERE IS A LARGER SIZE (the one on the right in the photo).

In an instant, I went from not even knowing that a larger size existed because the little one lasted me YEEEAAARRRSSS, to realizing that I NEED the larger size so I don't run out because I'd like to journal EVEN MORE this year than last year and I do reach for black more than colours.

(My local art supply store doesn't keep these refills in stock any more, the one I order from Montreal has a $24 flat rate shipping which is a bit much for a $12 refill of ink so I tend to order less often and stock up on things)

THIS IS A CELEBRATION OF SHOWING UP

It doesn't matter what my journaling looks like.

It doesn't matter if the journaling helped me figure out my life and get my shit together.

Nothing matters except that I showed up for myself and my dreams MORE in this measurable way.

I think there are lots of interesting ways to measure when we're not focused on outcomes.

Pages filled.

Hours spent.

Words written.

Since the process of entirely non-leaner there is actually no real way of measuring progress and yet we're all kind of focused on it.

How can we measure and celebrate our PROCESS instead of our PROGRESS?

Can you PRIORITIZE your dream?

I spent 2025 sitting with a few questions, one of them being: How to I BE the artist that I know I AM?

That question brought up SO MUCH. (On our Hello 2026 Dream Blessing Ceremony on Zoom we had this great discussion about BEING who we know we ARE and how complex this is)

Sitting with it took so many turns.

And now, even though our calendar isn’t actually magic and a new year doesn’t have any real power… I feel like “Oh that’s so last year”.

I am no longer wondering HOW to BE the artist I know I AM.

Because I am BEING her.

I was almost there… I had big projects ready to begin and very vague sense of where I wanted to go and actual trust that a vague sense was enough direction…

(And I have a post I work on about this shift that happened for me in the first week of 2026 but it's not quite ready for sharing. Next week I hope!)

And then I had a business coaching session to go over my plans for 2026 (with Pamela Slim who is amazing and I trust completely and mostly works on much larger projects but once a year offers a small 1 off coaching session through her email list)

One thing that came up is that it would make more sense for me to do ART and my own journaling/mediation first thing in the morning when I am my most creative, and then do work later in the morning or the afternoon. And to mix it up more, to back and forth between them.

To use the art as FUEL instead of the old "get your work done, then you can play".

Which is complicated because we DO need to take care of practical matters and I LOVE my work... AND... there is this thing where if you don't prioritize the play, the work can take up all the space. But when you prioritize play there is more energy and the work gets done - in an even better way!

Some of the big questions that came up around BEING the artist I AM were about schedules, routines, and my whole relationship to my work, both the art and the Creative Dream Incubator which feel so completely connected to me but are also kind of two different things.

When Pam suggested this it felt scary AND right.

And then when I tried it, it was like WHOA. The lights went on.

I’ve been so productive in this last week (this just happened a week ago) and have more energy in general.

I’ve always known that doing my own Creative Dream Alchemy practice first thing CHANGES EVERYTHING about how the day unfolds, and that needs to come first.

But to also sit and embroider for a few hours, or draw or paint, before checking email, before making sure my business tasks are done…the only phrase that feels right to describe how that feels is “a goddamn miracle”.

I have so much more energy and mental space.

It might be tempting to think I should have figured this all out sooner and not given myself a whole year to sit with the question about how BE the artist I AM.

But I don't know that the answer would have hit in the same way, if it hadn’t had as much as it did to sit with the question.

Sometimes we do need to just sit with things and let our inner relationship with them change.

Sometimes we do need to shake ourselves out of our comfort zone and just DO THE THING.

I can remember at least a few times when I have given this same advice to someone on a group call or individual coaching session… how sometimes we need to PRIORITIZE the dream over the day to day life. And it’s usually scary to contemplate and then becomes VERY liberating.

So I want to leave you with that question. How can you PRIORITIZE your dreams, over the things you need to do each day?

It’s natural to run out of steam, from doing all the things you NEED to do, and not get to the tings you WANT to do.

But if you did the things you WANT to do first - would that generate more energy so you actually get everything done?

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Our New Moon call is happening tomorrow, January 16.

Membership members: Get the call details here. <-- the replay will be on that page a few hours after our call.

The New Moon Calls Are IMPORTANT!!!!

Make sure to participate, either by joining us on Zoom tomorrow or by making a plan to watch the replay in the next few days.

This is where you plan out the next month of your work with your dream. And you know me! I'm not going to ask you to "just focus on your dream" if you are in the US and freaked out about what is happening. In the meditation you'll have some space to process and sit with "What do I need now?" and set an intention to support yourself through this time.

We do this very gently, we start with a meditation for reflection on the previous month, gathering up the lessons and growth, celebrating the wins, re-framing the things that are ready to be changed, checking in with what we need now, and then setting intentions for the month ahead. This is a DREAMY and SUPPORTIVE process.

Then, we do an alchemy process for connecting with the part of us that knows how to do what we want to do, and gather information and support about what we need over the coming month. This is where we get more BRAVE and FOCUSED.

This is when I ask you to look at the ALCHEMY of it all - the Dream Work, Inner Work And Outer Work that's going to support you over the next month.

Then there's time for coaching, Q+A, having amazing discussions and talking about whatever is coming up for you in your work with your dreams.

If you can't attend a live call, leave your questions/comments/thoughts in the comments (at the bottom of the page with the call details) and I'll address them on the call.

You can let these times change you.

Have you noticed how in any interesting story… there are characters, and there is an event, and the event changes the characters? And how, so often, we like them better as their changed selves and even THEY seem to like themselves better as their changed selves? Even though the event was traumatizing and unwanted?

I’m re-watching Stranger Things and was really appreciating Nancy Wheeler’s transformation from kind of prissy entitled teenaged girl to monster slayer, risking her life to protect others. I think you can tell she loves who she’s become.

That was one of the things I remember about my divorce. When it happened so suddenly, and felt like this huge dramatic wave, I thought… I don’t want this to change me. I don’t want it to make me bitter and shut down.

That was just a response in the moment. In time I started to see how much I DID want the divorce process to change me. How unwanted, uninvited traumatic experiences actually do have the power to HEAL us and help us move deeper into who we really are.

That wish “I DON’T WANT THIS TO CHANGE ME. I DON’T WANT MY LIFE TO CHANGE” is a natural response to traumatic events… AND… a “natural response to a traumatic event” could also be called a trauma response… and we don’t want to stay in that response.

My social media feeds are full of ads for different ways to regulate your nervous system so you can stay positive… like the right yoga routine can cure fascism, late stage capitalism and climate collapse.

I get the wish to try to stay positive, keep your nervous system regulated, and hold onto the things that matter to you. But again, do you want to stay in a trauma response?

Of course, I really want you to be taking good care of yourself.

OF COURSE I REALLY want you to not give up on your dreams.

But we also have to remember that our dreams are our creative and spiritual responses to the world we live in. So as the world changes, our dreams may change, we may change, and we need to make space for all of that.

Right now, if you feel stuck or unsure with your dreams, it could be that your dreams need you to let them change in light of how the world is changing.

Support for this in the membership:

The Dream Lab! This helps you really dig in and explore the soul of your dream, you can even ask your dream directly “Do you need to change?”

Dream Book 2026 - a gentle practice for showing up and holding space for yourself, your dreams and the future you want to create. These dailyISH check ins can help you notice, over time, what needs to change.

We have a New Moon Intention Setting Ritual this Friday - the way we do that ritual also helps us connect with ourselves and our dreams and make space to really LISTEN so we can see the changes that want to happen. (This work the same if you come live or watch the replay over the weekend)
