Manifest your dream life

Enthusiasm Activates your Superpowers

The Declaration of You will be published by North Light Craft Books this summer, with readers getting all the permission they’ve craved to step passionately into their lives, discover how they and their gifts are unique and uncover what they are meant to do! This post is part of The Declaration of You’s BlogLovin’ Tour, which I’m thrilled to participate in alongside over 100 other creative bloggers. Learn more — and join us! –?by clicking here.

There are many qualities that activate your Creative Superpowers (AKA your Infinite Creative Potential and Ability to Make Your Dreams Real) like Love, Desire, Stillness, Passion and Trust.

But Enthusiasm is my personal favourite, because it’s the most fun.? And I like fun.

Enthusiasm is magic because it harnesses the power of both Love and Passion, and then turns them into something slightly more adorable.

Don’t judge what you feel enthusiastic about!

Please, revel in the nerdiness of enthusing about what you are truly enthusiastic about.? Coolness only cools down enthusiasm, dulls your superpowers and points you in the direction of “fitting in” instead “being a totally freaking amazing Creative Genius”.

It does not matter what you are enthusiastic about, it only matters that you are enthusiastic about something.?

It wakes you up inside.? And it points you towards your dreams.

Yes – being enthusiastic about having another cup of coffee will point you towards you dreams, which will point you towards your Soul Purpose.? Change your life without giving up anything you love!

Feel into your enthusiasm.? Give it some space.

Notice where it shows up in your body.? For me it feels like glitter bubbles bubbling in my heart.

Notice how it feels to let it get as big as it wants.? For me, as I focus on them, the bubbles get bigger and then explode into tiny rainbows that fill my whole body and expand out into my energy field.

Imagine what it would be like to let enthusiasm lead you through your day.? To leap joyfully from that second cup of coffee to a walk in the park and oh! yes! let’s stop and smell the ALL OF THE roses…

To full on enjoy and celebrate every single thing about being alive.? I mean, really – life is a miracle.? You are a miracle, living in another miracle.??If the fact that you are alive is not something to get excited about, what is?

And then… there it is.

*POUF*

A Brilliant Idea That Changes Everything.

Because Enthusiasm activates your Creative Superpowers, it’s always going to lead you towards something amazing.

So tell me in the comments: what are you enthusiastic about today?

I’m enthusiastic about: sunshine hitting the crystals in the Dream Loft, sending rainbows flying everywhere, the new project I’ve been working on and (eeeeeiiiiiiii!) how close I am to finishing it, drawing, sewing, cloud-watching.

Let’s get out there and enjoy the heck out of all the amazing stuff there is in this world!

I turn 39 today.

I woke up happy.

I’m noticing that the older I get the less I care about my birthday.? But at the same time it’s nice to mark one more trip around the sun and take stock of where I’m at.

post-playdate desk
My desk this morning is covered in notes + supplies from yesterday’s playdate.

Birthdays used to feel HUGE.? I had a lot of birthday rituals, including a lot of journaling, visioning and intention setting.? This year, gratitude and appreciation feel more important.

I am feeling HUGE appreciation that I left my job 2.5 years ago.

I feel so much more ME today and I know that is a big part of it.

My life feels so much more aligned with my truth and I know that is a big part of it.

I feel strong, empowered, creative and free.

I am proud of what I have built and excited for what I will build next.

I am excited to be at this exact place in my life.

Dreams lead you back to who you are.

Dreams are spirit and purpose, activated.

Dreams lead you into alignment with your soul, your self, your magic.

Living in the beauty of that alignment is what I am really grateful for today.? That and BAKED ALASKA BIRTHDAY CAKE! YUM!

I turn 39 today. Read More »

Talking to a Creative Block

I?m happily working on my new thing and hit a speed bump. Nothing I write feels right.? Some part of my brain wants to say that this project is too big, too complicated, there is too much to do so I am lost and don?t know where to start.

Another part of my brain calls bullshit though.

Earlier this week I thought to myself, The Art of Bringing a Dream To Life could also be called The Art Of Not Bullshitting Yourself.

And here I am bullshitting myself, or attempting to anyway.

So, if I wasn?t bullshitting myself about not knowing what to do, what would I do right now?

And, not surprisingly, I hear an answer…

I?d totally finish part 1 before working on the draft of part 2.

That?s interesting, why would I do that? I always do a full draft first.

You know how the longer you work on something the better you get at it? You?re already at the place of being able to totally rock part 1. The act of finishing part 1 is how you get to be able to rock part 2. That?s why you could write part 1, and the first part of part 2, so easily. But now you need to go back and to a final version and record it and create artwork. The part 1 can nurture and fuel part 2.

Hmmm, that?s kind of brilliant.

But now I feel kind of tired at the thought of editing the draft, recording, editing the recording, creating artwork and putting it all together.

What’s tiring about that?

Well, no the project itself isn’t tiring.? Normally I’m inspired and energized by my projects.? What’s tiring is…

You’re doing it again. Bullshitting yourself.? You’re not tired, you’re in resistance.

Oh, right.

So what if you wrote out all the reasons why you resist this?

Oh man, that’s scary.

When I breath into the resistance the main thing there is that… this is so much work, what if it bombs?? Maybe I can’t afford to take all this time to work on something new.? Financially I’m really banking on it going well, because I can’t do paying work while I am working on this.? Holy crap that is scary.? No wonder I am in resistance.

And is this true?

Well, no.? It’s not 100% of my business.? I have that other thing I want to start doing.? And tons of other things in the works.? I don’t have to stop doing all income-generating activities in order to get this done.? Argh, I’m still bullshitting myself.

So where is the resistance now?

It’s a little lighter.? It’s seeing the long-termness of this project and feeling tired about the journey.

Is this more long-term than anything you’ve done before?

No, not at all.? It won’t even take that long, once I get into the flow with it.

So where is the resistance now?

I’m putting it in a bubble of creativity, enthusiasm and flow.? Ha, now it’s skateboarding around the bubble.? It’s giggling.? It wants to be creative and make stuff!? It wants to sew skateboarding costumes.

How do you feel now about your project?

Kind of excited.

What do you need?

To map our this project and make a list!? Oh Holy Crap!? A map! A list! How did I forget that?

It’s SO hard to get to where you want to go without a map!

Deep sigh of relief.

It’s mapmaking time!? I LOVE mapmaking time!

[Knitting Pattern] Rainbow Superhero Blanket

One of my favourite self-care things is my Rainbow Superhero Blanket, which I designed and knit so that I could have something cheery to?wrap around me any time I need a shot of nurturing/refuelling/comfort or a little nudge of remembering that I am a creative genius.

And I leave it in a pile of colour on my giant hot pink cushion and it makes me smile all day long.

Free Knitting Pattern: Rainbow Superhero Blanket width=Free Knitting Pattern: Rainbow Superhero Blanket width=

Because it’s one of my favourite things, I share a lot of photos of it in Facebook and people are always asking about it, so I am sharing the pattern, which is a very simple pattern I designed for it, so you can knit your own.

Let’s all be superheros!

Supplies

  • 7.5 mm knitting needles (If you knit loose, use 6.5 mm needles)
  • 14 balls of?Knit Picks Shine Sport yarn?(or similar, or totally different – your choice! Shine Sport is what I used – it’s soft and silky and easy care plus comes in bright colours)

Yarn!

There are 7 colours in the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) you can get 2 of each or 2 different shades of each (which is what I did – though some colours I used have been discontinued since then) or make up your own rainbow using just your favourite colours.

Blanket Size

14 balls will give you (roughly, depending on your gauge)?147 cm (58″) square.

You can, of course, get more yarn if you want a longer rectangle blanket.

Blanket Knitting Pattern?

Cast on 226 stitches in red.

Knit 1 row

Purl 1 row

Begin stitch pattern.

STITCH PATTERN

Row 1 (right side) ? knit

Row 2 ? knit 5, purl to 5 stitches from end, knit 5

Row 3 ? knit 5 *(K2tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2tog) 3 times; repeat from * to 5 stitches from end, knit 5

Row 4 ? knit 5, purl to 5 stitches from end, knit 5

To make the rainbow: Start with red, work your way through the rainbow??(red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple – or else make up your own rainbow!). ?What I did was knit each ball to the end, and just attach the new colour wherever the old one ended.

Continue in stitch patten until you have about 6 rows worth of yarn left (I measured it out, measuring 3X the length of the row for each row, and then leaving extra for binding off) then:

Knit 1 row

Purl 1 row, bind off.

Enjoy! And if you knit it, I’d love to see your photos on the?Facebook?page!

[note to self] The bigger your dreams are, the more steady your foundation needs to be.

I have declared April, May + June 2013 to be a Creative Cocoon.? I am working on a new project and wanted to create this cocoon that is filled with all of the qualities it needs to grow into all that it cam be: spaciousness, trust, wonder, magic, creativity and structure.

What is really cool + different about how I am approaching this project is that I am creating it IN in the Creative Dream Circle.? So my fellow creative dreamers get to watch how I bring it to life – they get to see the magic unfold.

And, of course, they get to see my every stumble along the way.

What I really want to share with them is that you don’t just have an idea and then *pouf* make it real and it’s done.? You enter into the creative process with your vision, but the creative process itself changes your vision and it even changes you.

It’s basically walking through fire with your dream.

Dreams only stay perfect when you leave them on the shelf.

The path, the creative process, changes everything.? And it is so disorienting!? Some days I don’t even know what I’m doing or why I’m doing it.

This is hard/scary enough to do in the comfort and safety of my Dream Loft, but holycrapterrifying to do it with my fellow creative dreamers watching.

So I keep coming back to steadiness.

How I need to focus less on whatever is happening in my creative process and focus more on developing and maintaining internal steadiness.

This morning I am scared, scattered and confused.

I can’t connect to the deeper purpose of why I am doing this and so I can’t tell what direction to go in.? My internal compass is spinning around wildly.

My inner critics, fears, doubts, unhelpful patterns and limiting beliefs are trying to throw me off path.? To get me back safety into the center of my comfort zone.

My inner wisdom, spirit, purpose and infinite creative potential are holding onto the vision for me.? To call me forward along the next steps of my path.

So I am doing the work of creating internal steadiness.

Meditation. Energy work. Extreme Self-Care. Journaling. Creative Journaling. All the stuff in the Creative Dream Incubator – to access the courage I need to be able to see my next steps clearly.

Creative Journal
In my Creative Journal

You don’t always need to figure out what to do about the obstacles.

If you focus instead on developing internal steadiness sometimes you can hit them, and bounce over them without falling over.

I guess that is my assignment for today.

I started writing this because I couldn’t work on the thing I was supposed to be working on this morning.? So I am changing course and going to work on steadiness.

I’m going to create a Department of Internal Steadiness for this new project.

Oh!? That’s it – I’ve found my zing, my internal compass has stopped spinning and is now set on “GO!”

Yay!

PS: Yes my internal compass is a real thing.? And I taught a class on how to access your internal compass, you get it with the Creative Dream Incubator Kit.

How Meeting your FEARS with CREATIVITY and LOVE Means you’ll Never Have to Stay STUCK

Every time I talk to a client who is really stuck about something, once when we get a clear picture of what’s happening, the problem is? that they are listening to their inner critics.

There is no other cause of stuck.? It really is as simple as that.

I know it seems like it’s got to be more complicated than that, but it isn’t.? You can only do one thing at a time, and that one thing can either be what your infinite creative potential is suggesting or what your inner critics are suggesting.

What makes it seem more complicated is that most people’s infinite creative potential speaks to them in a whisper, while their inner critics are screaming.? Your infinite creative potential is actually much more powerful and much louder – but if you’ve spent your whole life tuning it out of course you’re not going to be able to hear it!? Meanwhile, if you’ve spent a lifetime of listening to your inner critic of course you’re going to hear it loud and clear!

This is the stuff I wish they taught in schools.

Learning how to tune into the voice of your infinite creative potential and turn down the volume on your inner critic is the secret to success.

Every minute you spend listening to your fears, doubts and inner critics is a minute in which you are NOT building your Empire of Creative Dreams.

You may be so used to listening to them that it feels so natural that you don’t even know you’re doing it.

You know you are listening to your inner critics if:

  • You see a LOT of obstacles in your way.
  • You’re waiting for things to change before you can go for your dream.
  • You’re pretty sure if you did go for it, you’d fall flat on your face.
  • You have a lot of other obligations right now and don’t have time to dream.
  • Your dream is a nice hobby but there’s no way it could be a Big Serious Thing.? Best to hold onto that day job.
  • You totally want to go after your dream, you just don’t have enough time/support/money.
  • You have no idea what to do about your dream.

Now wouldn’t it be nice to be listening to your infinite creative potential instead?? You know this is happening when:

  • You see the obstacles, and you see ways to work around them.
  • You’re passionately mapping out a way to get exactly what you want.
  • You’re willing to fail but deep down inside you believe in yourself and you believe in your dream.
  • You’re seeing ways to set up your life to make room for everything that’s important, including your dreams.
  • You sometimes surprise yourself with how BIG you’re dreaming, and you love it.
  • You are determined to find a way to make this work, you don’t need to wait until you have the time/money/support.
  • You are filled with inspiration and really amazing ideas for how to move forward.

Learning how to make this internal shift is the most important thing you can learn.

Read that second list again and imagine what your life would be like if all of these things were true for you.

Here’s the secret: you can’t do this by OBLITERATING your fear.

Or ignoring it or burying it or fakin’ it ’til you make it

Because your fear is a part of you too.

Your fear, doubts and even your meanest inner critics are actually just a freaked out inner child.

  • Meeting that child with love calms it down.
  • Meeting that child with creativity transforms the situation.

You give it a hug and say “Oh sweetie, I see you’re upset.? Let’s see what we can do to make you feel better” and you explore.

The beauty, magic and power in this approach is that in order to meet your fear in that way, you automatically align yourself with your infinite creative potential.?

When you’re plugged into creativity and love you’re plugged into your magic and you’re in that place where everything is possible.? This disengages the energy dynamic you’ve been in with your fears.

Meeting your fears, doubts and inner critics with creativity and love will transform the situation, every time.? It’s the fastest way to getting un-stuck.

With love and compassion you work with your fear to create a new possibility.

Deep down inside, your inner critics, fears and doubts (AKA frightened inner children) want the same things you do.?

When you enter into a loving and creative energy dynamic with them you can now work together to get those things.

Want to experiment and play with this?

This is the essence of what we do in the Un-Sticking Station in the Creative Dream Circle.

You even get a recording called: How Meeting Your Fears With Creativity + Love Means You Never Have to Stay Stuck, where we create a beautiful safe space for exploring fears, I talk about how this works and then lead a few volunteers through the process so you can see how it actually works.

This is so abstract, it’s kind of hard to explain.? But once you experience what it’s like to see people work through the process, you’ll totally see the magic.

What you’ll get:

  • A deeper understanding of how to handle fears/doubts/limiting beliefs/inner critics
  • A simple process you can use to gently and effectively disarm your fears whenever they strike
  • Deep down knowing that you are not alone in this, which makes it a gazillion times easier to deal with.

I believe we are always either listing to our fears or listening to our creative genius.? Fears are good at masquerading as a lot of other things, like logic and sensibleness, and the better you get at working with fear, the better you get at identifying it so that you can spend more of your life being guided by your genius, instead of by your fears.

In other words – meeting your fears with creativity and love is HOW YOU CREATE MAGIC.

The world needs your magic.

Creative Depletion + Filling The Well

Me, wrapped up in my rainbow superhero blanket.

Monday morning is usually my favourite time of the week.? I love mornings, I love new beginnings.? I love what I’m doing with my work so it’s always exciting to dive into a new week.

This Monday is different.? This Monday I’m starting from a state of creative depletion.

The past five weeks I’ve undertaken what I have been calling The Mystery Project.? This is the biggest project I’ve ever done and I broke ALL of my own rules for creative nurturing and extreme self-care in order to do it as quickly as I did.

Sometimes you have to break the rules.

When it comes to creating my own courses and everything I do in my business, I have learned how to schedule and plan in tune with my creative needs and cycles.? I give everything what it needs to incubate FIRST.? When you give the creative dream incubation process what it needs FIRST, the creation process becomes so much easier – everything works like magic.

Speaking of magic -? this amazing opportunity came my way.? A once in a lifetime kind of opportunity.? The kind of opportunity that, if I hadn’t jumped on it and given it everything I had I would have regretted it for the rest of my life.

So I chose to work myself into a state of creative depletion knowing that depletion is temporary and I am skilled at filling the well.

There are schools of thought (and I used to agree with them) that say that balance is key and you have to focus on maintaining balance at all times.? I now think that’s horseshit.

Creativity is flashes of light and wild creative abandon and stillness and deep incubation.?? You don’t balance it, you dance with it.

Every part of the cycle is part of creativity.? Trying to stay in a state of balance can mean softening the edges of that natural cycle and dimming your light and dulling your results.

Success comes in being actively engaged in all parts of the dance.

And also seeing the beauty and joy in all parts of the dance.? Even though I actually feel better when I’m being actively creatively productive, remembering that the refilling times are just as important for productivity helps me relax into the decadence of exquisite self-care.

Right now, for me this means: naps, bubble baths, aromatherapy, journaling and lots and lots of tea. Oh! And some molasses cookies dipped in tea!? Mmmmmm.

This is who I am and what I stand for.

I am an artist.? My canvas is my life.

My tools are adventure, play, possibility, love, deep healing work, transformation, authentic power, glee, creativity, connection to spirit, expression of purpose and being a ray of light.

Also: journals, rainbows, crystals and mineral spas.

It’s important to me to live my life in a way that feels true to who I am and to contribute what I feel I am here to contribute.?

This is more important to me than anything.? More important than finding a partner, having babies or making a million dollars.? I can do without pretty much anything else, but if I didn’t have this I would wither and die.

Even before I had the tools to be able to do this effectively, I was still practically allergic to seeing people hiding their true selves.? They mirrored the places where I didn’t know how to not compromise and it made me itchy and uncomfortable.

I stand for being who I am and supporting others in the process of becoming who they are.

I believe this, and only this, will save the world.

When you can be who you are you have access to infinite wisdom, infinite strength, infinite creativity, infinite love, infinite inner power and infinite ingenuity…. when you can be who you are anything is possible, in a tangible way.? And anything that harms or belittles? anyone or anything else just seems like a stupid waste of time.?

When you can be who you are you become a light.? Most of the world is in shadow right now.? When most of the world is in light – things will change.

So when I talk about making your dreams real I am talking about changing the world.? One awakened creative being at a time.

I just read this blog post and it inspired me to write out who I am and what I stand for.

The world needs your light. Shine bright.

The world needs your light. Shine bright.

Getting yourself to a place of being able to shine your light, and then making the necessary adjustments to keep shining the brightest light you can reach for is an ever-changing dance.

My dance, over the past few weeks has included:

  • solitude, lots and lots of glorious solitude
  • so many mugs of tea
  • re-arranging the furniture (both literally and metaphorically)
  • 45,000 words written
  • journals and art supplies scattered all throughout the dream loft
  • getting to know my most menacing inner critic yet – a huuuuge beast, a cross between a bird and a wolf.? (And then finding out it was just an inner child in a costume – which is why you NEVER yell at inner critics or tell your fears to fuck off.? No matter what they look like they are always your sweet, scared inner children)
  • the discovery of a whole new level of radiance + joy and the ability to plug into it in a whole new way

The quiet times are when all the best stuff happens.

The world needs your light. Shine bright. Read More »

The puzzle is too small or the pieces are too many

We’re on Module There of the Creative Dream Incubator in the Creative Dream Circle which is Expression: The Magic + Sparkle of Making Dreams Real.? Creating space in our lives so the dreams have somewhere to grow into.

The first few weeks of the Incubator is about tending to the more invisible aspects of creative dreaming, working on your relationship with your dream and your relationship with possibility and magic, so that those relationships are strong enough to bring the dream to life.? In all of that, two dreams came to the forefront for me but many others are right behind them.

And my relationship with each one of them is AHmazing.? And I can’t wait for them to be here!

But when I step back and look at the whole, look at where and how I can fit all these different things into my life it’s all GAH.

GAH!

So I sat with the GAH to discover what it has to teach me and here it is:

I am being stretched, so that I can contain all of these dreams at once.? It’s ok that I don’t know how it all fits yet because I am in the process of being stretched and I won’t be able to see that until I am stretched enough for it.? And then *pouf* everything will make sense and everything will fit.

The message is for me to be ok with not knowing.

Which makes me want to GAH again but instead I’m taking a deep breath and reminding myself that every time I have been in a place of not-knowing that has lead me to something new – bigger, better, brighter, whatever.? If I never go into that place of not-knowing I never get to experience anything new.? If I never allow myself to be stretched I never get to have more.

And the GAH is now is a hug filled with comfort and reassurance and familiarity and trust.

And when I step back and look at the whole instead of that GAH of not being able to see how it all fits I see a lot of fog and mystery.? Before it felt like it can’t all fit and now it feels like it does all fit – I just can’t see how.? But I trust the fog and I trust the mystery so now it’s exciting to watch and find out how it’s all going to fit.
